Controlling Your Thoughts

I have learned a great deal over the past few years that the quality of your life depends first on the quality of your thoughts. I share about it often at this blog. However, sometimes controlling your thoughts can be very difficult. They can be like a runaway train and you may find it difficult to control your thoughts and keep them positive.

Even though I have learned to become master of my own thoughts, I still sometimes go through times where I realize that I’ve allowed some unhealthy thoughts to enter. I try to catch this as quickly as possible because I know that I need to think positively in order to be productive.

One excellent way to target your mind to positive thinking is a Bible quote from Philippians. Whenever I struggle to maintain positive thoughts I often go back to this verse. I was reminded of it again recently. Philippians 4:8 says… Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.

It is a great reminder about what to think about, especially if you are having difficulty keeping your mind focused on positive things. The art of positive thinking goes well beyond this, as in affirmations, visualization, and the like. However, this is the most excellent rule of thumb and “back to the basics” method of positive thinking that I believe there is. Simply thinking about beautiful things, blessings to be thankful for, or any good thing in your life will bring you back to thinking positively and impact your day positively as well.

I recommend taking at least a few minutes several times during the day to reflect on admirable, praiseworthy things, and people around you. You will notice the immediate impact of your attitude. This then affects everything else to relationships, the flow of your day, or whatever in a very positive way. Then you will receive even more things to reflect on and be thankful for. Why Not Me?

The above title is a question that is revolving in my mind lately. I think about it for the goals I have in all areas of my life.

There are people positively impacting thousands of people a day through blogs, books, speaking. Why not me?

There are people enjoying financial freedom, able to help themselves and many others with their resources. Why not me?

There are people with abundant energy all the time. Why not me?

There are people working their dream jobs, with great flexibility of schedule. Why not me?

There are people leading their families to greatness. Why not me?

The list can go on. I am not writing this to complain or be jealous about what I don’t have. In fact, I have at least a little bit of all of the desires I mentioned here. I just haven’t completely reached the level that I want to be at.

The main reason I consider this, is that I feel like God is asking me this question. We often believe we are not worthy to receive what we are seeking. However, I believe God has me asking myself in regards to my greatest desires, why not me?

Are you fighting this same battle today? Do you see others enjoying what you want and feeling like it will never happen for you? If so, I challenge you to ask this question…why not me? Ask a few times, then play the picture in your mind of having the very things you desire (I recommend trying this 5 step visualization process). Feel the corresponding joy, and believe you are just as worthy of having this as anyone else in the world. Once you believe this, it will inspire you to take the action to make it happen. You Don’t Have to See It To Believe It

For we live by faith, not by sight – 2 Corinthians 5:7

You hear it all the time…seeing is believing. However, I have recently been challenged to turn this statement around. I have been advised by many prominent authors that in order to see my goals realized, I need to believe it first.

What’s your greatest desire today? I challenge you to believe in its realization right now. This is not easy to do. It’s hard to believe that your goal is being accomplished when you see absolutely no evidence of it anywhere. However, it’s this very faith that will bring it into reality. Use your imagination. What do you see? What does the realized goal look like; sound like; smell like? How are you reacting? How are others reacting? Another key is, as you imagine the beauty of your realized goal, FEEL IT! Carry these wonderful feelings with you as often possible. Constantly feel the joy, gratitude, and satisfaction you would feel if you already had what you desire. The more you live with the faith of your goal being realized, despite the outward evidence, the sooner it will happen for real. Another Bible verse (my personal favorite) says “whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” Mark 11:24. When you imagine and feel your goal being realized, you are believing that you received it. Indeed it will be yours.

I challenge you today to believe in the fulfillment of your desires. Do not focus on what you see. Instead, focus on the desire and feel wonderful about it. Thank God in advance for His blessing and live as if you have what you desire. Before you know it, you will believe it AND see it. Enjoy the blessings 🙂

A Minute by Minute Guide to Maximizing Time Management

Let’s start by doing a little calculation. You may want to do it yourself too since I am certainly not a math wiz. Anyway, how many minutes are in a day? 60 minutes in an hour x 24 hours = 1440. Now, considering we are asleep for about 440 of those minutes, let’s say we have 1000 useable ones a day.

1000 minutes seems like a lot. And it is! The problem is they don’t seem like a lot because we often don’t use them wisely. That is the key…wisely managing the time we have, no matter how little it is. I’ve shared here on more than one occasion a tip I learned about breaking the day into 15 minute chunks. 15 is a good number because you can get a significant amount done, and a short enough time that if you catch yourself after wasting a few of these blocks, you can still make it up and accomplish something.

So why am I talking about 1 minute blocks today? I was reminded about something I heard from Abraham Hicks about manifesting your desires. Abraham said that it takes only 1 minute of solid, focused visualization to begin the process of manifesting your goal. I don’t know how this number was determined, but I do know that Abraham Hicks is one of the great pros for manifesting greatness in life. As a result, I am listening to whatever is being suggested.

In thinking about this, I realize how many minutes, hours, and even days I let slip by without taking time to visualize life the way I want it to be. When we remove our focus on what our life is now and all the things we don’t want, and place it instead on what we do want our life to be, it begins to manifest into the desired state. And all it takes is a minute at a time to visualize that greatness.

I am not saying that we need to visualize and focus on every single one of these minutes. The way our human mind is wired makes this virtually impossible. However, use at least some. We have a thousand minutes a day! Even if you find it difficult, you can start with a small number. For example, start with just 10 minutes a day of solid visualization. Then as you become more proficient you can increase that time. If you stick to it, you will begin to see positive results, which will inspire you to continue. The key is staying focused on your goal, and taking small chunks of time during the day, even if those chunks are as small as a minute. It’s much better than going thousands of minutes without spending time to pray for your greatness and see it in your mind.

A Place You Can Have All of Your Desires

Don’t you wish there was a place where you could have anything you want? Your personal confidence is sky-high. You have all the money you need and more. Your relationships are positive and mutually enriching. You are in the perfect career, loving the work you do. Your faith tells you that you can accomplish anything. You travel the world and enjoy the most beautiful sights.

What if I told you there is such a place? And that you can be there at any time. This place does exist, it”s fully accessible, and you control everything there.

Where is it? Please tell me, I hear you begging. This wonderful place is…. your imagination. One of God’s greatest gifts and blessings is the wonderful imagination he has given you. Is it not true? Can your imagination take you anywhere you want to be and provide you anything you could want?

The problem is that when many people leave their childhood, they leave the joy of their imagination behind. Small children have so much fun using their imagination, making themselves heroes, parents, athletes, cowboys, brides, you name it. They have so much fun living these experiences. They are not real, but they certainly make it as close as possible to being so.

I want to know whoever said that the fun has to stop after childhood. Last I heard no one ever made this rule, yet so many people avoid using this wonderful gift. It’s a wonderful gift for many reasons. I have also learned in the last few years that the imagination can be used to dramatically enhance our lives. Albert Einstein said that our imagination is the preview of our life’s coming attractions. Jesus Himself said that if we can imagine and believe our prayers and desires as already true, they will be answered.

One other great fact is that your subconscious mind does not know the difference between a real or imagined event. If you continually imagine something as true, your mind believes it, and your actions occur in conjunction, resulting in greater confidence and success.

So why not use your imagination to the fullest. Certainly use it to take you places you want to go and help you become the person you want to be. In addition, I recommend you use it deliberately to shape your mind and develop the necessary faith to act on accomplishing your goals.

Why Should I Think Positive Thoughts?

The above question is an interesting and relevant one. If I provided all of the reasons why positive thinking is beneficial and necessary, I would use all of the space this website allows.

In addition to maintaining positive thoughts, action is also necessary if you want to accomplish your goals. I am realizing more and more that the action you take is in exact correlation to the thoughts we think. In other words, the formula is simple…the higher quality thoughts you think, the higher quality your actions will be.

I believe in keeping things simple on this site, and I believe you can’t get much more simple than that. It may seem overly simple, in fact. Yet how many times do we let the negative thoughts take over and wonder why we aren’t seeing results?

I challenge myself and my wonderful readers to focus within today. Maintain the highest quality thoughts you possibly can. Feel the highest corresponding emotions. Visualize the success you crave. Then determine what needs to be done and take the steps to do it. The more you focus on the positive thoughts, the more those steps will be giant and productive. Allow this basic formula to produce amazing results. Enjoy the blessings 🙂


Let Me Sleep On It

Ok, God is speaking to me again. No, I’m not crazy and hearing voices in my head. I’m just being shown the same information from several different sources in a short time, which I have learned is a sure sign that He is speaking to me.

The subject is sleep. I don’t know about you, but this is one of my favorite topics and activities, so it was easy to get my attention with this. To clarify, what I have been reading about is what I am quickly learning is the most important part of your day.

This most important part of the day is the few minutes immediately before falling asleep. Why? I have written many articles on the significance and power of the subconscious mind. I won’t explain too much about it here, but in a nutshell, it is this part of your mind that controls not only your life functions such as breathing, heartbeat, etc., but it’s also where your core beliefs are stored. It is these beliefs that determine your actions (or lack of them) which ultimately determines your level of success and quality of life.

I have also studied and written a great deal about how we can control the quality of thoughts that are in our subconscious mind. Again, I won’t get into detail, but we can use methods like positive affirmations, hypnosis, and visualization to impress the subconscious. For more information on those, I recommend you explore my other posts in those categories.

I apologize because I realize I’m leaving you hanging and I haven’t answered the question yet. Why is this time before sleep so important? It’s because this is the time when your subconscious mind is most receptive to the thoughts and ideas you feed into it. You want your positive thoughts and empowering beliefs engrained into your subconscious, and this is the time where it is most likely to happen. It is because you are in a very relaxed state. However, most importantly, when you impress positive thoughts and ideas into your subconscious at this time, you are letting them establish themselves and as Wayne Dyer says, “marinate” in your mind as you sleep.

So what’s the result? When you wake up you are starting your day with these empowering thoughts. I am sure you have experienced this without even trying. For example, when you go to bed angry or with worrisome negative thoughts isn’t that the automatic theme as you start the next day? It’s the same when you think positive and peaceful thoughts before falling asleep. You wake up strong and positive. What’s even better, is that these empowering thoughts become an automatic part of your mind. As a result, the action you take throughout the day matches the thoughts, and your chances of success dramatically increase. So does your faith in the ability to make it happen regardless of any obstacles you may encounter.

For whatever difficulties you are experiencing in your life, I believe this is an easy fix. Take full advantage of this wonderful, even magical time immediately before falling asleep. Pray and invite divine assistance to the situation. Then affirm success, visualize the successful outcome, and feel the wonderful feelings as you drift peacefully into sleep. When you do this, you are allowing the subconscious to take over and make it as automatic as breathing or riding a bike.

I am taking full advantage of this time and I have already seen great results. I invite you to do the same. All it takes is five minutes before sleep to positively affect your entire day, and ultimately your entire life. Even if you fall asleep in the middle of it, so what? You will still experience a peaceful, positive sleep that will empower you immensely. It’s a power you will never grow tired of. Enjoy the blessings 🙂


Why Would I Not?

Why would I not pray to the God who created me and the entire universe, has control of absolutely everything, and is ready and willing to provide abundantly?

Why would I not remain completely focused on the fact that God’s all-powerful and all-knowing spirit is the main part of my being, when I am promised that if I seek Him first I receive everything else?

Why would I not spend the time visualizing the success I crave, when I have read hundreds of books on the topic that ALL tell me how powerful this process is?

Why would I not tell myself the things I need to hear, knowing that positive affirmations are effective and powerful in changing my beliefs and increasing my faith?

Why would I not be eternally grateful for the blessings I have received in life, knowing that the more thankful I am, the greater blessings that will show up?

Why would I not serve and give to others, knowing that everything I give returns to me tenfold?

Why would I not take the actions necessary to reach my goal when I know God has not only set them up for me, but has set me up for success?

I can keep this list going with many other similar questions. I share these because these questions came to mind this morning. I know that I can’t even imagine the level my life would reach if I simply followed these actions. Yet I still often remove my focus from these areas and dwell on what I don’t have, my current struggles, and doubts that stop me from moving foward. I have grown signifcantly and am very thankful for how far I’ve come, but it still happens too much for my liking.

I share this because I know many other people have the same difficulty. When I thought about this and prayed about it this morning, I realized once again that I have full control of the quality of my life. I realized that I should only be focusing on those ideas mentioned above, and I pledge to keep my focus there. I share this as an inpiration to take as many people with me as I can. Why would I not?

Don’t Have The Time?…Find It!

I often share about the importance of finding the time to pray, meditate on your goals, and visualize life as you wish it to be. This is because you often receive what you focus your thoughts on. The problem is that, as easy it is to spend a few minutes praying and visualizing, many people don’t take this necessary opportunity. The reason is almost always the same…I don’t have the time.

I understand that time is precious, and all of us often fight the clock. My question then is this. Do you have time to watch your favorite TV show each week? Do you have time to read novels from that author you love? Do you have time to read all of the bad news in the paper?

I’m not saying there is anything wrong with watching your favorite program or reading your favorite book. My point is that, even though you don’t have time for so many things, you MAKE time to do those things. My point is that if you can make time to do those things, you can easily make time to pray, visualize, read the Bible, etc.

It’s all about deliberately MAKING the time to do these very important things. I was learning this the hard way. I wanted my life to change in a big way. I knew I had to pray, think positive thoughts, and visualize the successful life I was dreaming about to make it happen. However, I often went many days without doing any of it. My life wasn’t changing. In fact, I was getting more frustrated, and I was heading in the opposite direction. I then realized that the only way I was going to get that time was that if I deliberately took it myself. No excuses. I was going to do it no matter what, regardless of the situation. It even helped me double task, as I still watched the sports I wanted to watch, and just did some of the mental exercises during the breaks. I will say though, it’s best if you can fully focus on your thoughts, God’s word, etc.

This concept is true for anything in life. If you want to get in better shape and have been putting off exercise, you simply need to deliberately block off the time to do so. If you are looking to call that friend you’ve been meaning to speak with, it’s just a matter of purposely setting the time aside to do so. Sometimes this is easier said than done, but the more you deliberately put time aside for these important things, the more progress you will see. Even more amazing, is the more you do this, the more it will seem that you have more time available to you. It’s the same 24 hours a day, but it will seem like you have more if it.

I challenge you to think of something you’ve been meaning to get done, but put off because of lack of time. Use that excuse no more, and deliberately put aside a chunk of time to accomplish it today. Even if you don’t completely finish the task, you will be much closer than you would have been, and you will feel better about it. You will also be less likely to procrastinate and will quickly set up another time where you can complete it.

I have accomplished so much more in my life since I just decided to deliberately take time to do the most important things in life. Yes, I still have a lot less time than I would like, but if you deliberately seek the time to pray, visualize, or do whatever you are looking to do, you will find it. Enjoy the blessings : )
