Why Your Affirmations Won’t Work

January 13, 2015

I am a firm believer in the power of using affirmations to make positive changes in my life. In case you don’t know, affirmations are words and phrases you use and repeat to impact the subconscious mind. The key is that as your beliefs change, you take the necessary actions to make the changes happen.

The problem is that sometimes positive affirmations can do more harm than good. I have had people tell me that affirmations have made things worse for them. It has happened for me too.

So why should I continue to use positive affirmations? I recently wrote an article for an ezine about the topic. I share the link with you here….

How to Avoid the Negative Effects of Positive Affirmations

I certainly hope this helps you use positive affirmations to take those steps towards reaching your goals. I invite you to share with us what works for you. Enjoy your blessings today 🙂

Is Hypnosis Appropriate For Christians?

December 29, 2014

What do you think about the topic of hypnosis? Even though it is far more accepted and known in today’s society, it still carries an aura of mystery around it.

I became interested in hypnosis when I was 14 years old. My father found and began using a book on self-hypnosis. I too learned how to hypnotize myself and even as a teenager used it to remove fears, heal injuries, and build my confidence.

Fast-forward to today. It is far easier to hypnotize yourself as there are countless programs and videos available that do it for you. You can use hypnosis for changing your subconscious to accomplish anything you want to achieve in life.

As good and effective as hypnosis is, people still question not only its effectiveness but its ethical nature. I share an interesting conversation and concern from one of my teenage daughters. I am fortunate that all three of my girls are interested in living the proper Christian life. I was talking about a hypnotist I was listening to when my daughter asked the question… “Dad, we are Christians. Shouldn’t we be relying on God to change us instead of messing with hypnosis?”

I was impressed by her thoughtful question. I am glad that she would even challenge her father to defend her faith. It did not take me long to address her question with an answer that I’ve always used to defend using hypnosis since I’ve been a Christian.

So is hypnosis ok, or like more daughter says, should we fully rely on God without using any of these tricks? Here’s my answer….hypnosis is fine for anyone to use. It is not unethical, as long it is not used as a negative towards someone else and it is used in line with God’s will. Here are the two main reasons I explained to my daughter and to anyone else who has concerns, why hypnosis is right and good:

  1. Correct use of God’s free will – God has given us free will. It is up to us to use that free will in a responsible and productive manner. When we use hypnosis to gain more confidence, heal relationships, or improve our life in general, we are ultimately making ourselves more useful for accomplishing God’s purpose in our lives.
  2. Good stewardship – One of our responsibilities in life is to be the best possible stewards of God’s resources. One of the most powerful gifts He has provided for us is our mind. Using our thoughts and minds in a positive, efficient manner will bring us a blessed, and abundant life that we can share with others. When you use hypnosis to maximize the power of your mind, I believe you are maximizing your stewardship of this great gift God has given you.

My daughter accepted my explanation. Although she is still not sold on hypnosis, she agreed with my reasoning and realizes hypnosis is far from ungodly. I am not trying to convince you to use hypnosis (although I strongly recommend it). However, if you are a Christian with the same concerns or simply have your doubts about hypnosis whatever faith you practice, I hope this information addresses those concerns for you.

I am all for relying on God to bring us where we need to be in life. He should be the ultimate focus in bringing us to live the life we are meant to live. Yet I ask…why not maximize the power of the subconscious mind that God has provided for you. Hypnosis is not only ok, but it’s a powerful tool you can use to maximize the power and greatness of your life. Enjoy the blessings 🙂

Tapping In to The Power Within

September 13, 2014

Each day I receive several inspirational e-mails from authors I have subscribed to. They are all worth reading and very helpful, and every once in a while I receive a gem. I received one such gem this morning. It comes from Karim Hajee. Karim is a specialist of mastering the subconscious mind to add power to your life and reach the success that you crave. I found today’s e-mail an excellent reminder of the power we all possess and how we can easily tap into it. I share this with you today in hopes that you will be just as inspired as I was today. Enjoy the blessings 🙂

Hi Joe,

You have tremendous power

The kind of power that can create
the personal changes you want and
bring you the success you deserve

This amazing power is within you and
When you use this power correctly you’ll
gain control of your life and be able
to achieve your goals sooner and without
having to make any sacrifices

When you work with your power within,
when you give it the right instructions
you’ll experience greater success, you’ll
make more money, you’ll meet the right person
and you’ll have more confidence – you’ll
make the right choices and you’ll be on
the right track

When you use your power the right way you’ll
overcome setbacks, bounce back and move forward

This powerful force within is connected to
the universe, your subconscious, God and everyone
around you. It can bring you exactly what
you want when you use it the right way.

Today I’ll show you how to apply your amazing power
so you enjoy success, happiness and get what you want
in life… Read on and enjoy

Here are a few things you can do to get
this awesome power working for you.

Change how you see things and how you see yourself
That means putting an end to the constant
negative self talk or negative chatter

If you want to be successful then see yourself as
someone who can be successful.

Give yourself positive encouragement and stop thinking
about what’s wrong or why you can’t do something

If you want to be in a healthy, loving and
caring relationship then see yourself as
someone who can be in a loving, caring relationship.

Get rid of any limiting or negative
thoughts and beliefs about yourself

For example: If you want to be successful you
can no longer say, think or believe things like:
“it’s too difficult to be successful, I don’t
know what to do, I never get any great opportunities
My parents never encouraged me
My friends don’t support me
Everybody around me is too negative
I don’t get any positive feedback.”

These are all negative statements, negative thoughts and
negative beliefs that prevent you from achieving your goals.

Eliminate them and change them into statements that help
you succeed and get what you want in life
Instead of saying something is too difficult, think about
why you can achieve your goals.

If you keep repeating the negative statements you’ll
have your Power Within working against you
Because it will create what you don’t want.
For example: if you say it’s too difficult to do something,
your power within will make it difficult for you to
accomplish what you want.

Now to get the full benefit of your amazing power
you have to direct it and give it the right instructions

Start using your Power Within to achieve your goals
Get rid of those negative thoughts and limiting beliefs
Start believing in yourself and your ability
Now Get your subconscious mind and inner power
working for you so you live the life you want

Only you can determine your own success
It doesn’t matter if people around you are negative
You don’t need encouragement and support from friends or family
You only need to believe and see yourself as someone
who can be successful

Because you can accomplish what ever they want…
when you believe you can.

Once you believe, once you raise the bar a
little higher, once you believe that you
can and will accomplish your goals you’ll be on
your way to greater success
You’ll also be directing subconscious mind and
your inner powers to bring you the opportunities
for you to succeed, make more money,
meet the right person and make the right choices

So don’t believe the excuses or reasons
that your mind gives you.

Take a look at where you are today and decide
what kind of life you want to live
Decide to turn things around today
Start seeing yourself as successful in every
aspect of your life
Once you see yourself as successful you will
be able to direct your mind and subconscious mind and
start using your power within to help you
achieve your goals. Yes you can…

When you work with your amazing power
New opportunities will begin to pop into
your life everyday.

You’ll meet people who can help you in ways
you never thought possible.

You just have to work with your power and
your subconscious mind the right way

So Change the way you see yourself
Believe you can be successful
Get rid of the negative thoughts and
negative beliefs that hold you back
Focus on what you want
Decide what you want
Be clear and specific because your power
will bring you what you think about and
what you believe

Unleash your power within by focusing on what
you really want
Eliminate the negative thoughts and replace them with
powerful, positive thoughts – this will force
your power to bring you positive results
Create beliefs that catapult you to success.
Start directing your power within to
create the life you want today

How To Find the Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven

July 29, 2014

It would be great to be able to go anywhere or be anything we wanted to be, wouldn’t it? Think about it. On a frigid winter day instantly taking yourself to a warm beach on Miami; Beaming with confidence in a situation that normally produces fear; Accomplishing a goal you’ve always wanted to conquer. The list can go on endlessly.

I have been reminded often in recent times that we indeed have this power. We can bring ourselves anywhere and be anything we want to be. I share this reminder with you today. It’s a wonderful, God-given gift called our imagination. The great thing about this wonderful gift is that, not only can be used to produce wonderful dreams and situations, but it can be used to make those dreams a reality.

How can our imagination, this wonderful gift that had us fantasizing about being parents, actors, firefighters, athletes, heroes, etc. as kids take us to higher levels as adults? It happens in two ways. One is the thought. That is envisioning yourself in the situation or as the person you want to be. It is effective because it affects your subconscious mind. It is this part of your mind that affects the actions you take. When your mind is positively impacted, it inspires you to take the required action to reach your goal, thus getting you there faster.

Here’s the second factor, and what I am learning is even more important. Your imagination can provide the feelings of fulfillment, the same positive feelings you would have if you were actually where you wanted to be. I am learning more that it is these feelings that impact the subconscious in a significant way, even greater than the strong thoughts.

What this tells me is the more you can put yourself in the state of being and feeling that reflects your dream and goal being fulfilled, the faster you will get there for real. Here’s an excellent quote from a book on this idea called “The Power of Awareness” by Neville Goddard. I see it as one of the great keys to creating your desired life… “The man who at will can assume whatever state he pleases has found the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. The keys are desire, imagination, and steadily focused attention on the feeling of the wish fulfilled. To such a man any undesirable objective fact is no longer a reality and the ardent wish no longer a dream”.

The ticket to heaven and how to get there is another discussion altogether. However, if you are looking to experience heaven on earth, this author and others with the same message provide the key. Hold a picture of your desire in your mind and don’t let it go. Then feel it and live it as if you already have it. As the author says, assume the wish fulfilled and it is yours.

I realize we have to act and play our part too. However, I don’t know about you, but if these are the two very simple steps we have to take to realize our wishes and goals, then what is stopping you? If you haven’t spent time using your imagination and feeling and “experiencing” the wish fulfilled, try it now and see how powerful it is. You have nothing to lose. If anything, you will make yourself happier simply by thinking beautiful thoughts. Yet there is much more positive to gain along with it. Enjoy the blessings 🙂

As a post note, in addition to your imagination, you can use several other techniques to realize your desires quickly. This free e-book, The Ease and Keys of Rapid Manifestation will show you how 🙂

How To Receive The Absolute Best

November 12, 2013

I am lucky enough to be on some great mailing lists from people who provide excellent information and advice about personal development and mind power. I received a great e-mail today that I wanted to share with my readers…

Be your best and you’ll get the best.

That’s because you’ll not only attract what you are you’ll
also get what you give.

Give your best and you’ll get the best in return.

So give your best, I mean really be your best when ever you can.

Be the best employee, the best father, mother, brother, sister,
husband, wife, son, daughter, business person, entrepreneur,
student, professional, – just be the best you can and you’ll
end up attracting the best.

People will recognize your efforts and come to help you be even
better than you are today – so that you get more and have more.

By being your best you also program your subconscious mind
to go out and bring you the best. You’re telling your subconscious and
your inner powers that you want the best, you’re giving your best and
you expect nothing but the best in return.

You then give your subconscious mind no choice but to go out
and bring you the best so that you always have the best and get the best.

Now sometimes your best won’t be good enough.
When that happens, learn and grow – push yourself to be even better.

You may want to be the best employee of the year so you could win
a great prize – but if you fall short, that’s okay. You gave your best, you’ll
get better when you learn and force yourself to be better the next time around.

Professional athletes practice everyday and they try to give their best
in every competition. But not all of them will win. So they learn and grow by
practicing and working to be better.

As you work to be better, your subconscious and inner powers work with you
to bring you a better life so that you get exactly what you want.

Today and everyday, give your best. Do the best you can at
everything you attempt. Learn and grow.

Your subconscious and inner powers will soon follow up and bring you
the best and that’s when life becomes a lot more pleasant.

So be your best and give your best.

Have a terrific Monday and a fantastic week…

Painting A Beautiful Picture

October 26, 2013

I have been blessed by God in that I have been given several talents. However, painting and art is not one of them. You are reading a post from the absolute worst artist in the world. I will challenge anybody on that. In fact, one of my students who claimed he was the worst artist challenged me to a contest to see who was the worst. We created our stick figures, and he nodded his head. He said…”you know what? I agree…you are worse”.

Anyway, I share this because no matter how bad of an actual artist you are, you can still create a beautiful picture. God has provided us all with a wonderful gift called imagination. With it, you can create the most beautiful pictures and scenes you can think of.

I share this because I have learned of the power of creative imagination, also known as visualization. I have been reminded of this because, in my incredibly busy schedule, I have had difficulty finding the time to visualize the success I am seeking in my life. However, like other things I am used to in life, I began to miss and crave this visualization experience. I had some down time last night, and once again enjoyed this wonderful experience. This horrible artist painted an incredibly beautiful picture : )

Why is visualization so powerful? Because it affects the subconscious part of your brain. This is the part of your brain that ultimately affects your actions and results. Here’s the key…your subconscious cannot tell the difference between a real or imagined event. If you continually visualize success, your subconscious believes you are successful (even if you have failed continually) and leads you to successful actions.

Here’s more good news…it doesn’t take a long time for your subconscious to be convinced and your frame of mind to be changed. I read one report by Abraham Hicks that it can take as little as a minute and a half visualization to positively affect the mind. Obviously, the more you can focus on the positive results you seek, the better. However, hopefully knowing that it doesn’t take a long time (remember, even just over a minute is highly effective) can provide the incentive to take advantage of this wonderful gift.

I have long been aware of the benefits of visualization and have shared about it plenty of times before. However, I got away from it for a while and was recently reminded of the benefits and experienced them again. I recommend the same for you. Take a few minutes to consider what success you want to achieve. See yourself experiencing it in your mind, and feel the positive emotions. Your subconscious will see it as real, and lead you to the actual experience. That’s a beautiful picture that even the worst artist can paint. Enjoy the blessings : )

A Simple Way To Increase Your Motivation

August 23, 2013

Most people are looking for simple ways to improve their quality of life. I was reminded of one of those simple ways. In fact, it is so simple that many people skip this vital step to accomplishing their goals.

This motivational tip is to ask yourself the question….what do I want? That’s it. I told you it was simple. Yet so many people don’t place their focus on their exact desire. Sure, they have an idea what they want, but they’ve never really thought about it in detail. For example, they will say…I want to lose weight. Ok…how much? what is the exact weight you want to be at? Those are the types of questions you need to ask.

How does this simple question help achieve success? When you know exactly what you want, your subconscious mind gets a hold of it. What the subconscious then does, as long as you remain focused on the exact goal, is it thinks of ways you can achieve it. It will provide steps to take to reach that goal. If you then take those steps, you are likely to be successful. It’s also common sense that the more clear your target is, the easier it is to hit.

Do you agree that it’s quite simple? If so, please don’t overlook the importance of taking some time (not much is needed) to answer that “what do I want” question. Be sure to be very specific in your answer. If you know specifically what you want, and focus on it as much as possible, your mind will wrap around it and give you the steps to take to get there. Not to get too scientific here, but the subconscious is the part of your mind connected to your spiritual being. As a result, the steps you are being given by your mind are divinely inspired. This is one of the reasons prayer is so effective, especially when you are very specific with your petitions.

It’s a simple fact that your motivation and success will increase dramatically when you make it clear to yourself exactly what you want to accomplish. Keep focused and let your God-inspired mind lead you to your desitination. Enjoy the blessings : )

An Extremely Helpful Visualization Technique

January 19, 2013

I have to admit, I have some quirky habits. One is that I am very good at remembering exact months and years that songs were popular. I can hear most songs and pinpoint it almost exactly. Some nights I enjoy listening to songs and deliberately putting myself back to that time in my life. I spend the three minutes or so visualizing the detail…what was I doing, who was I with, what was I watching on tv, where was I working or going to school, what was going on in the world, etc. I am very good at clearly re-living those events, and I actually feel like I went back in time for a few minutes. It definitely elevates my mood as well, and I often wake up the next morning with a smile on my face.

As I return now to 2013, many people talk about how creative visualization can help you accomplish your goals and create the life you are seeking. It’s a great idea, but it’s sometimes difficult for people to envision an event that has never occurred. As a result, they get frustrated, say it doesn’t work, etc. This can bring you further from where you want to be.

Visualization is a very helpful technique, and it has helped me develop the confidence I need and take the action necessary to accomplish goals. As mentioned, it’s not always easy to envision a future event. So how can you make it easier? You can practice by envisioning past events. Go back in time to a pleasant memory. Re-live the details. Where were you? How were you feeling? Who were you with? What were you doing? How did it look, feel, sound, taste, and smell?

It’s much easier to envision a past experience, especially a positive one. The key is to do all of those same things as you visualize a goal that you have for today. See it as if it’s happening. Where are you? How are you feeling? Who are you with? What are you doing? How does it look, feel, sound, taste, and smell?

When you live out your dreams in your mind with vivid details, your subconscious mind begins to believe it. It cannot tell the difference between a real and imagined event, so it’s assuming it’s real. This gives you the confidence you need to take the necessary action. Then you begin seeing results in the real world. It only gets better from there.

People say to avoid living in the past. I believe it’s true, we shouldn’t dwell on the past. However, why not use the same tecnhiques for reliving beautiful memories of the past in detail to create your beautiful life of the future and live the details. After all,,,”It’s a Beautiful Life” (Ace of Bass, December 1995).

The Power of Mental Clarity

April 7, 2012

What is one of the best ways to live the best life possible? The most common answer I am always given is….know EXACTLY what you want to accomplish.

It’s a simple guideline, yet many people do not focus on a clear goal. Some people want more money. Others want to lose weight. Others want the ideal job or relationship.

It is ok to want those things. I think everyone wants all of those things at some point. The key is to be as specific as possible. For example, instead of more money, you instead focus on a specific dollar amount. For example, you say “I want to make $100,000 in 2012”. Instead of just losing weight, say “I want to lose 30 pounds in the next 6 months”. With anything we are seeking in life, we must be as specific as possible with exactly what we want.

Why is this necessary? When our mind is focused on something specific, our subconscious gets a hold of it, and we are directed towards it whether we realize it or not. This is not possible with a non specific goal. I also believe in the power of prayer. When we pray for specific scenarios, I believe it helps develop the necessary faith to accomplish the task, and we will see God’s work in it. It also makes it easier for us to play our part because any action we take is made easier because it is focused on the desired result, ultimately getting us there sooner.

The bottom line is we need to be clear and specific with the outcomes we are seeking. I found an article that explains this in greater detail, especially how the subconscious mind takes a hold of specific requests. I will provide a link to that article. In the meantime, don’t just hope for a great day. Think of exactly what would make it great, let your mind take hold of it, and take the steps to get there. Enjoy the blessings : )
