A Positive Affirmation About Self-Talk

November 14, 2017

If you’ve read this blog or my books, you know that one of the most significant topics I discuss is using positive affirmations to enhance the quality of your life. If you are not familiar, positive affirmations are positive phrases, messages, or scripture verses you repeat to yourself over and over again. The purpose is that, if your mind hears it enough times, it begins to believe it. For more information about using positive affirmations, I recommend these articles…How to Make Your Affirmations Believable and 7 Excellent Positive Affirmation Tips  , along with my free book…The Ease and Keys of Rapid Manifestation.

I learned about using positive affirmations from many inspirational authors. These are people who have changed many lives and empowered many people. What’s exciting to me, is that I recently found information in the Bible that encourages the use of affirmations and self-talk. Psalm 1:2 says that the blessed man delights on the Law (Word) of the Lord and meditates on it day and night.

I researched this information a bit further. I found that the original Hebrew translation says that the blessed man “soliloquizes” on the Word day and night. When I looked up the definition of soliloquy (say that 5 times fast), it is defined as “an utterance or discourse by a person who is talking to himself or herself or is disregardful of or oblivious to any hearers present (often used as a device in drama to disclose a character’s innermost thoughts” (taken from Dictionary.com).

In essence, this is what we do when we use positive affirmations. I fully trust the individuals who I learned the idea of positive affirmations from. However, I was encouraged to know that God Himself in His Word recommends using positive self-talk and repetition of His faithful promises to keep our minds pure and empowered, thus enhancing our lives and of the people around us.

So go ahead…it’s OK to talk to yourself. I promise I won’t call you crazy, especially because I do it all the time. Of course, you may not want to do it in front of other people, and you need to keep the affirmations positive. Focus on God’s Word, or simply repeat what your intention is. Once your mind starts to believe it, you take positive actions, which bring positive results. Once again, I invite you… talk to yourself and tell yourself great things. God encourages it. Enjoy the blessings 🙂

A Powerful Self-Talk Technique

November 14, 2011

It’s always funny when we see someone talking to themself, isn’t it? I think this is mainly because we all do it, and we can all relate. On several occasions I have mentioned the importance of self-talk on this site. As much as we joke about it, I believe it is very important to make a habit of deliberately telling ourselves great things about ourselves. The more our mind hears it, the more it believes it, and the more we act in confidence and faith.

I would like to take this self-talk technique a step further. I read this on a website recently (as well as other places before) and decided to try it. After only a few days, I can already see some dramatic positive effects. The technique is this…instead of just affirming great things, ask yourself a question. That powerful question is, what can I do TODAY that will bring about the desired result? For example, at this time in my life (my mid 40s), I am seeking to be in the best shape of my life.  Instead of just affirming that I am strong, healthy, and in great shape, I need to ask myself what I can do this day to make that happen. I am seeking to be the best husband and father I can be. Instead of just affirming that throughout the day, I can take it a step further by asking what I can do, ALL I can possibly do that day, to make it happen. I am looking to double my income in 2012. Instead of just affirming it, praying it, and visualizing it (all important steps), I need to ask on a daily basis what I can do to make it happen.

This may seem like an overly simple process. However, here’s the cool thing. When we sincerely and prayerfully ask that question, the answer ALWAYS comes. The key is to act on it as soon as it does. Also, there are many occasions where the actions we need to take are very small. We may hesitate when we receive a small answer, and even possibly dismiss it because we are looking for great solutions right away. However, the small action, such as a phone call to reach out to someone, filling out an application, looking up a Bible verse, or doing a small favor, can do wonders and have great impacts. Whatever it is you are inspired to do just do it!

The only drawback I’ve heard from this is that we are doing the work and not allowing God to do His. Yes, I know that sometimes people (definitely me) try to do too much and get in God’s way. Remember though, that although God wants us to faithfully rely on Him, He also expects us to act in obedience to Him. When we ask the question of what we can do to achieve our goal, and listen attentively for the answer, we will receive it. When we act on it, it is simply us doing our part as we pray for God to do His. It’s also a kick in the butt for people like me who are sometimes slow to act, to just do something, and then let God use it for His good.

I challenge you to ask yourself this question daily for whatever goal you have…What can I do TODAY to realize my goal? When you challenge yourself this way, the answer will come. And when you act on that answer, you will see fast results. I’ve seen it myself already after a short time of using this technique. I strongly recommend you try it. Enjoy the blessings : )

P.S. I wanted to share the link where I was presented with this challenge. The information on that website mainly deals with using this technique to increase your income. It will certainly help you do that. However, you can use this technique for any area of your life, whether it’s improving relationships, health, finding a job, or simply enjoying life more. The author also presents another process for helping reach your goals that I also recommend you try. In both cases, I believe this can be a great help to anyone. Enjoy!

Powerful Self-Talk

October 19, 2011

It’s a beautiful day Joe, isn’t it. Yes, it’s an incredible blessing and…

Oops! I admit it. You caught me talking to myself again. Come on, admit it. You do it too. I would guess that many of us spend some time talking to ourselves.

My philosophy is, as long as we are going to talk to ourself, let us tell ourselves great things. We are incredible beings. We all have many positive attributes and plenty of great quality to offer to those around us. It is important that we remind ourselves of this fact. We need to spend time each day reminding ourselves of these positive qualities. Repeat to yourself how healthy you are; how good of a worker you are; how good of a friend you are; how successful you are. Simply tell yourself whatever you want to hear.

The fact is that your mind believes what it hears. Unfortunately, many people have low self-esteem because they’ve listened to  the negative things people have told them. For example, they’ve been told that they are not smart enough or good enough. As a result, they start believing it and living it out. The same is true for the positives. A young person may not believe he is a good artist, athlete, student, or whatever, but if enough people tell him that he is, he will eventually believe it, and his talents will flourish. It is also true that the mind does not consider where the information comes from. It doesn’t matter if it comes from someone else or from ourself. If it hears something enough, it believes it. We can control this by feeding our mind with positive information. If I tell myself that I am healthy and attractive, I will believe it and act accordingly. If I tell myself I am an excellent teacher, I will believe it, and my performance will reflect this faith. If I tell myself I am an excellent husband and father, I will believe it, and my mind will force my actions to back it up. That’s simply how the subconscious mind works.

Remember that the mind believes what it hears on a continuous basis. Knowing this, and the fact that we all talk to ourselves anyway, let us tell ourselves great things. As a result, we will live our lives with more confidence and joy, and we can effectively assist and positively impact those around us. Talk to yourself in a positive way. Your mind will listen and lead you to greatness. Enjoy the blessings : )
