How Is Life Like A Smartphone?

May 14, 2013

Ever since I saw the smartphone for the first time, I have been in love. In my opinion, it is one of the greatest devices ever invented. In the palm of my hand I not only have a phone, but basically a ticket to the world. I get so much use from this device, yet there is so much  more potential that I am not even aware of. If I had greater awareness of what this phone could do, I would be even more amazed than I already am.

The only negative with this device is that it needs to be re-charged every day. On some days, I need to charge it more than once. This can make if difficult to function, especially if I don’t have my charger available.

Sometimes interesting thoughts cross my mind. I realized how the smartphone is very similar to life, especially one that is lived in the Spiritual realm. When you live in the Spirit, the world is at your fingertips. You get so much more from life. Many of us are unaware of the great potential we have. If we had greater awareness of what we could accomplish through the Spirit that is within us, we would be amazed at what life would bring us.

Just like the smartphone, we need to re-charge on a regular basis. When we “plug in” to our power source, our power and capability are completely restored and ready for maximum use. Sometimes we need to re-charge more than once during the day for this to happen. In fact, I will go as far as recommending re-charging as much as possible. When we stay connected to our Source, we are never without power.

When you use your smartphone today, or see someone else who does, think of how life relates. You are a very powerful “device” capable of “bringing the world” to yourself and everyone that comes in contact with you. If you haven’t already, “plug yourself in” to your power Source and be thankful for that mighty power that you are supplied with. It is indeed a gift.

I would write more, but  my smartphone is ringing, and I need to take a call. Enjoy the blessings : )

Who Do You Think You Are?

May 2, 2013

I was reminded the other day of a conversation I had with someone at a part time job I worked at. We talked about Christianity and our confidence in the goodness and power of God. The main theme of the conversation for each of us was “I know who I am”. What we meant is that we knew we were beautiful, powerful, and awesome creations of our God.

I didn’t enjoy this job very much. It was a job I was doing in addition to my teaching job in order to make some extra money to pay off our mountain of debt. It was rather insulting when someone half my age and education level would look down on me because I didn’t do this petty job as well as they did. Each time my friend and I would have a negative experience at this job, we always had our faithful line to fall back on. We would look at each other and say, “I know who I am.”

Do you really know who you are? I’m sure you know your name and all of your bad habits. But have you ever looked beyond that and learned who you really are? Whether you believe it or not, you are a direct creation of the God of the universe. Of the God who created everything. Better yet, His spirit dwells in you and is a part of you.

Do you think God would ever give up on something He created and is a part of? I don’t think so. I read a quote from a website that says, “You are part of the infinite ocean of pure potential where all things are possible. You also are an Energy Being, an individualized vibration of God”. (http://www.essential-practices.com/remember.html)

With God, all things are possible. This power of all possibility is part of you. Knowing this, you can do the following two things to dramatically alter your life:

1. Focus on this connection as much as possible. Whether things are going smoothly, or are difficult, remember that you are a divine creation, and part of that endless power and energy.

2. Begin thinking like the Godly spirit that is within you. God thinks in terms of love, service, power, and endless possibility. Act in this Godly way, and see things from this perspective. Instead of procrastinating because of fear, you will take inspired action to achieve your goals and help others achieve theirs. Instead of going against the flow in your job, finances, relationships, etc., you will go with the flow of the Spirit and be carried to the place where you can serve and do the things to turn your life from bad to good, or good to great.

I will ask you again…who are you? Do you see yourself as inferior and without the faith to live your dream life? Or are you a person who knows the Godly power within you and thinks on its wavelength to create greatness in life? I’ve learned from experience that the second option is best. Do I still have disappointments and defeats? Of course I do. However, I get over them much quicker because I know my Creator is more than ready to pick me up and help me get going again. That power is mine. I know who I am : )

Powerful People

May 1, 2013

There’s something about meeting someone powerful. Have you ever done so? You may answer yes or no. However, I can answer this question for you. I will tell you that the answer is yes. Who is it? Take a look in the mirror. It is you!

Many of us don’t realize how powerful we are. I am challenging myself and anyone else to not only realize it, but to KNOW it! The power of God dwells in each and every one of us. If we ask Him for it, maintain positive thoughts in our mind, and look for opportunities to do good, the amazing power in us will manifest. You will see great things. You will experience power you never imagined, but have always had.

This reminder has helped me as I am conscious of it during the past few weeks. I challenge you to keep this reminder in the front and center of your mind as well. It’s powerful stuff!!

Appreciate Your Beauty

April 13, 2013

I had a difficult week this week. I returned to work, took on some new responsibilities, the work load was non-stop, and I did not sleep well. As a result, I didn’t get some things done that I wanted to. When this happens, I sometimes get down on myself and return to my days of doubt and incompetence, rather than faith and determination. It seems as though countless other people around me are also going through difficult personal times.

The following is a chapter from my e-book “30 Days To A More Powerful Life”. As I thought about my situation and the hurting people around me, God immediately brought this concept to mind. I do not exaggerate to say that, when I re-read this and reflected on it, all of the difficulty from the past week was washed away. I hope the same happens for you, especially if you are going through difficult times or doubt yourself….

One of the most fun and rewarding jobs I ever had was as an announcer for a Christian radio station on Long Island in the early ’90s. During that time I was able to meet several Contemporary Christian Music artists. The one that stands out the most is being able to, not only meet, but spend an entire day with one of my favorite artists at the time named Michelle Wagner.

I was recently reading a book by Joel Osteen. It stresses throughout the book that, because we are creations of God, we are “beautiful” and should see ourselves that way . It reminded me of that day with Michelle Wagner and one of her greatest songs called, “You’re Beautiful”. The song is based on I Peter 3:3-4 which says “your beauty should not come from outward adornment….Instead it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit which is of great worth in God’s sight” It’s main message is that, as long as we are creations of God and remain close to him, we are beautiful and of great worth to Him.

The chorus goes like this…

You’re Beautiful
Like a diamond in the sun you’re so beautiful and you’re becoming brighter
You’re Beautiful
And the world needs so much to see all the treasure in your soul
You’re Beautiful

At that time I led a youth group and gave several talks about this song and its theme. I had the kids think about something they created. A picture or painting they did, a sculpture, anything. Then I had them think about how proud they were of their creation after they completed it. Maybe not everyone thought it was great, but nothing could take the beauty out of the eye of the one who created it.

God feels the same way about us. Maybe not everyone sees us as beautiful. In many cases we don’t see ourselves that way. However, our Creator is very proud of the one of a kind creation He has made. He sees us as beautiful, and as someone that can make a difference for Him.

We are beautiful in God’s eyes, so let us see ourselves that way in our own minds. Let us also use that Godly knowledge to show that beauty to those around us, and remind those in our lives about their beauty as well. With God’s help we can and will make a difference and make this world a “beautiful” one.

Action Plan: Spend several minutes a day focusing on your beautiful, positive qualities. Focus on them throughout the day. Before long, it will be automatic, and you will soon realize others are seeing that beauty in you as well.

I remind you that a free copy of this e-book is available for download on this site. Feel free to check it out and share it.

If you really want to be inspired, I recommend you check out the song and corresponding video here. Have a beautiful day : )

What Is The Most Powerful Question For Success?

April 8, 2013

As a teacher, I strongly believe in the process of asking questions to gauge the knowledge and success of my students. From my experience in life, I also find it helpful to ask myself questions. Like with my students, it’s a great way to get me thinking and see where I stand in certain areas of my life.

In my study of guidelines for success, I have read of proper questioning techniques you can use to question yourself. In fact, it’s quite simple. There’s one question you should ask, and one you shouldn’t.

The best question word to ask yourself is simply…”what”? As in, what exactly do I want? What exactly is the success I am seeking?

In order to reach a goal, you need to know exactly what it is, in as much detail as you can. Once you’re locked in on the “what”, your goal is already significantly closer to you.

Before I share what to do with the “what”, please allow me to share a question you should not spend too much time focusing on. That question is..”how”? People spend too much time and get too caught up on figuring out how the goal will be realized. I understand that this is easy to do. For example, one of my goals is to positively impact thousands of lives a day through my writing. I am not close to that yet. I honestly have no idea how to accomplish this at this point. However, if I spent all of my mental energy trying to figure it out, I would just stress myself out and most likely give up. I know, because this has happened with other goals I’ve had. That’s not the way to go about it.

Let’s go back to focusing on the “what”. The first thing is to be completely clear on what you want. Then pray and ask for it. God already knows what you want, but I believe He wants to hear you say it. Pray in detail for exactly what you want. Then develop the necessary faith by visualizing the success you desire. For at least a few minutes a day, imagine with all five senses what it would be like if you already had your wish. See it and feel it with as much detail, feeling, and positive emotion as you can.

When you focus on the “what” and visualize the desired success, an interesting thing happens. The “how” part of the equation takes care of itself. You will be inspired with the necessary courses of action to take, and then the inspiration to do it. Instead of stressing over the details, you spend your mental energy adding positivity to your being instead of stressing yourself out. Then you have the added energy to carry out the necessary actions. Of course once you reach the goal, your level of happiness reaches an even higher level.

I challenge you to focus on the “what” question instead of the how to reach your goals. Keep your mind fixed on the successful end result. Your “how” questions will be answered automatically. The next thing you know, you will be at your desired destination.

I would love for you to share your “what” goals or success stories of those goals you’ve already reached. Please share here. Have an excellent day : )

A Fast Way To A Remarkable Life

April 1, 2013

I’ve been away for the past few days. I attended a Fine Arts competition in Syracuse NY. Members of our church participate regularly, but this year was extra special for me because my 13 year old daughter participated for the first time. A group wrote a song, and she was invited to sing it for them. We were very proud as she did a great job, especially for her first performance in front of a public crowd. If it went well enough, she would have the opportunity to compete in national competition in Orlando. Exciting stuff!

As it turns out, my daughter did not receive the opportunity to move on. Why not? After all, I said she was very good, right? Very true. However, as we waited to see who would move on, the top acts performed again for the large crowd. It was here where I realized why they were moving on. It’s because they stood out from the rest. Some sang, some played instruments, some preached, and some acted in skits. Many performers were very good. In every category, these top performers were different from the rest. They all did something and had something that the others did not. This is why they were so remarkable.

I am lucky that I am able to do several things in life well. Some I do very well. However, through this experience I realized that, for me to take my life to the next level, good and well is not enough. I need to stand out in whatever area I want to take to a higher level. For example, I am a good teacher. My students learn and generally enjoy my classroom experience. However, in order to excel as a teacher, that can’t be good enough. I need to ask, what can I do to make this experience memorable and at the highest level possible?

I love to write, and believe I am a fairly good writer. However, it is my goal to stand out and touch thousands of lives a day. In order for that to happen, I need to stand out in some way. I need to constantly ask myself and others how I can do that. Only in that way can my writing be its absolute best and positively impact as many people as possible.

I challenge you to do the same. What is it that you want to excel at? What part of your life are you seeking to be truly remarkable? To make it happen, find out how you can stand out. What can you do that others can’t?

You may be wondering, “how can I answer that question”? I certainly don’t have all the answers. What I usually do is pray for divine guidance. God has all of the answers. He can and will direct you if you need help. Ask in prayer what you can do to stand out. If you truly seek answers they will come. Then act on the inspiration you receive and make it happen. Keep in mind that, especially when you pray and invite God into the equation, you are actually inviting His light to shine through you. All you have to do is turn on the switch. When you let His light shine, people will definitely notice as His grace is manifested. Another thing that works is to seek answers online through articles, other blogs, and videos. It’s amazing how much you can find out from others with the same concerns and goals.

My daughter and her group performed very well. They were good enough to move on. However, they didn’t because there were other groups that simply did more to stand out. If you don’t already know, please realize you have many talents and many things you can do well. If you are seeking to make your life remarkable, I challenge you to figure out what to do to stand out. Then do it. I have much more focus on this challenge of standing out and letting the Spirit of God manifest through me. I will say that it’s a fun challenge, and I invite you to enjoy it as well.

I would appreciate it very much if you would share what works for you and how you stand out in a particular area. I am sure there is plenty of valuable information and assistance I am leaving out here. It would certainly help other readers if there is any input you can provide. Many blessings : )

Who Sets The Limits?

February 21, 2013

Can you imagine if there was no such thing as a speed limit? Although it may be a bit crazy at times, it would be nice to have the freedom to drive without limits, especially if you need to be sompeplace quickly. Who sets these limits anyway? In many cases, we are critical of people who put limits on our lives. Nobody likes to be restrained.

I will add a part two to the above question. Who sets the limits in your life? How many limits do you have? I will say that I don’t like to be limited. However, as I have asked myself the question about limits and figure out who to direct my anger at for putting limits in my life, I quickly realize who is to blame. I’ll give you a hint. He shares the same name and body space as me. It is me! When I experience limits and lack of progress, I have no one to blame but myself. Other people can try to limit me, but they only succeed if I let them.

I serve a God of unlimited power. That power is part of me. I wonder how He must feel when He offers this power freely, and I reject it, only to put my own limits on it. Of course I don’t do it deliberately. Regardless, there is no need to focus on any limitations, especially when God’s unlimited power is readily available.

It’s amazing the ideas I receive when I am about to write a post. Just before I was ready to write this, I received an e-mail from Dr. Robert Anthony. It expalains that if you took a goldfish who was confined to a small bowl and put it in the ocean, it would still swim in a limited area as long as it was alive. It’s because it doesn’t understand that it can now go beyond its limits. He thinks that going any further is impossible.

Please don’t be like the goldfish. It’s a simple fact that if you don’t set limits on your success you won’t have them. You’re only as limited as you think you are. I have learned to stop confining myself to the fishbowl and instead have learned to throw myself into the ocean. I challenge you to do the same. You can slow yourself down or go as fast as you would like.

So why not go all out? Success is yours if you believe it. Let God carry you. If He doesn’t want to carry you somewhere He won’t. He’ll take you someplace even better. As long as something you desire is in His will, He won’t stop you from getting there. So don’t you be the reason your success is limited. Go fo it, full speed ahead. Enjoy the blessings : )

Did You Do Your Brain Workout Today?

February 18, 2013

During these fast moving days, it is often difficult to find time for a workout. With all of the crazy things going on, usually the workout ends up getting pushed further down the list, until time runs out and it doesn’t get done.

This scene has played out far too many times in my life. However, I have learned that the ones who do get their workouts done are the ones who deliberately schedule time to do so, and stick to that plan regardless. Those are the ones that are in the best shape and get the most from their body.

I will say that there is another workout that is in your best interest to stick to on a regular basis. Besides working out the body, it is extremely important to work out its most important function of all…the brain. Just like the body, the brain needs to be worked out on a regular basis to remain effective. I have realized the importance of putting aside specific, “no matter what” time to exercise the brain.

One may ask, how exactly do I exercise my brain for maximum efficiency? One answer I would provide is to keep using it. Remaining active instead of wasting away countelss hours of nothing is definitely recommended.

Besides the quantity of thought, I believe it is very important to pay attention to the quality of your thoughts. When you focus on positive outcomes, gratitude, and faithful, optimistic thoughts, you are exercising your brain to get the most out of it.

The important thing is to not take no for an answer when it comes to scheduling time to do this. It doesn’t need to be a huge chunk of time. Many mind experts say the best time to do this is right before going to bed.

I have followed this advice and spend 15 minutes or so immediately before going to sleep focusing on the highlights of the day, and filling my mind with scenes of success, victory, beauty, peace, and whatever great thoughts I can think. The result is I go to sleep with a smile on my face thanking God. I sleep more peacefully, and wake up ready to take on the next day.

Please be sure to do all you can to get some physical exercise. I challenge you to be even more sure to complete your brain workout. Keep it active with the most beautiful, positive thoughts you can think, and you will be in better shape than you can ever imagine. Enjoy the blessings : )

How To Develop Personal Power

February 17, 2013

If only I had the power to……go ahead, you fill in the blank. How often have we desired the power to accomplish a particular goal, or be the person we wanted to be, or have something turn out the way we want it to. It would be nice, right?

I am realizing more and more that this power we are seeking exists, and that we can develop it to the point where we have much more control of the outcomes in our life. So how can we develop our personal power? Here’s a very simple two step formula:

  1. Realize that we already have the power we desire. Luke 17:21 says, “the kingdom is God is within you”. That means that the love, power and grace of God Himself is a part of each and every one of us. Once we start realizing that, we experience a major sense of empowerment! I am not God by any means, yet I am still priveledged to receive the power that He willingly provides. That power is far greater than any evil or any obstacle I could ever face in life. Once you consciously realize that you have this power in you, and around you, your faith and confidence will skyrocket.
  2. Positive affirmations. How do we realize and maintain this power in our conscious mind? We do this the same way we incorporate any other belief in our minds. We repeat it over and over. We do the same with any positive thoughts that we want to be part of our normal thinking. Several times a day, repeat the statements you want to be true, and those you want to see manifested in your life. Your subconscious will eventually believe it, and you will then consciously act upon this confidence.

As you can see, the power to accomplish your goals is not missing in your life. You have the power to complete any task or reach any goal you seek. I will say it again…YOU HAVE THE POWER! It’s a matter of tapping into that power and consciously focusing on it. Pray for the direction on where to go, then seek the Spirit’s guidance, and take action with faith and confidence. Use this power for good, and it can take you anywhere. Enjoy the blessings : )

The Number One Way To Distinguish Yourself

February 16, 2013

Do you ever have days or weeks where certain words and phrases are constantly thrown in your direction? It seems like everywhere you look you see those words. I’ve learned by now that, when that heppens for me, I need to pay attention.

One such word is “distinguish”. I keep seeing this word in books, blogs, tv, my job, you name it. Ok, so God is telling me I need to distinguish myself. So what does that mean? I looked up the exact definition of distinguished, and it says…made easily seen or noticed by excellence. In other words, someone who stands out and rises above the average or just getting by. Instead, they are noticed and known for their excellence.

Wow! I was blown away by that definition. I prayed..ok, God how do I get to that level? I will simply say that when you ask, God answers. He led me to one of my favorite books, “Relentless” by John Bevere. I like to re-read this book every once in a while, and as I did, the words on page 49 jumped out at me. It talks about the story of Daniel in the Bible and how he distinguished himself (that exact word used). It is defined in the book as “he completely outclassed the other leaders”.

If you know the story of Daniel you know how true this is. How did he do it? The answer is a few lines below. It says he was totally connected to God. The book adds, ” he was disciplined in staying in close, continual touch with the Creator.”

Therein lies the secret of distinguishing yourself; of standing out and rising above the crowd. The more you are in touch with your Creator, and rely on the unlimited power He provides, the more you will distinguish yourself. When you “seek Him first” (Matt 6:33), everything else falls into place.

I challenge you to seek and follow your creator today, and to stay in close, continual touch. You will be blessed as a result. Have a great day : )
