A New Way To Measure Success This Year

One of my favorite and most helpful authors is Dr. Robert Anthony. His advice on how to utilize the power of the mind has been a great help to me and many others in bringing life to a higher level.

I am on Dr. Anthony’s mailing list, and I regularly receive gems of information from him. This is one of the best yet, and I wanted to share it with you. Here’s to your success : )

Are ready for a great New Year?

To help you get off to a running start I would like you to consider changing
your perception of WHAT SUCCESS MEANS TO YOU!

As I mature and have a better understanding of how things work, I have
come to understand that HOW WE MEASURE SUCCESS will determine our
happiness, or lack of it.

We tend to MEASURE SUCCESS in relation to achieving our goals.  In other
words, we set a goal and if we achieve it, we are happy and satisfied.  If we
don’t, we feel like a failure.  This creates anxiety, fear and sometimes even depression.

You will never be happy or satisfied if you keep focusing on what you DON’T HAVE,
or what you have NOT ACHIEVED.

Instead, consider this…

The way to MEASURE SUCCESS, and still be happy and satisfied, is to look at
WHERE YOU HAVE COME FROM.

In other words, LOOK BACK and notice how you have IMPROVED in any area of your
life – even if it is a VERY SMALL improvement.

If you LOOK BACK and celebrate your INCREMENTAL IMPROVEMENTS, the next
steps become so much easier, because you are happy and satisfied right now.

So, if you did not achieve everything you wanted last year, when you finish reading this,
take a look at the INCREMENTAL IMPROVEMENTS you have made and give yourself
a pat on the back. Make a short list and then give yourself some credit instead of focusing
on what went wrong or did not happen.

Seriously. I mean it.  MAKE THAT LIST. I’m watching you!

Start this New Year with the feeling that you have already started to make some incremental
improvements and that you are ready for more.  NEVER, I repeat NEVER, judge yourself.
Give yourself credit for what you have accomplished – no matter how small those accomplishments
may seem.

This will get you off to great start this year because you will START OFF with a sense of
ACCOMPLISHMENT instead of a sense of failure – which is never useful.  If you build on your
incremental accomplishments you can do EVEN BETTER this year than you did last year.

Once you give up all the “logical reasons” why something cannot work for you and allow your
new dream or goal to enter your Subconscious,  it’s an idea whose time has come.  If you truly
desire it and your Subconscious agrees to it – it’s yours!

How Was 2013?

There are only two posts a year where I talk about just me. The year end and year start versions. It’s kind of a way for me to look back (and ahead) and track my progress. It’s my space so I can do that, right?

So how was 2013 for me? It was just like 2012, 2011, 2010, and 2009. I learned and grew a ton, but didn’t take the steps into the promised land and get to that next level in life I am seeking. It’s amazing how these years all blend together like that. In every other 5 year cycle of my life there is at least one great year, and at least one difficult one. I can’t say that about any of the past five. They were all good and could have been better. I will say that in 2013 I feel like I learned, grew, and progressed more than I did in any of the previous four years.

As I look back on 2013, here are some accomplishments that put a smile on my face:

  • This blog – When I began the year, I had 4 followers and about 2 views a day. I wasn’t even sure I wanted to continue, not because I didn’t enjoy it, but because I didn’t have the time to dedicate to it. In February I decided to make the time and not accept no for an answer (one of my original New Years intentions). I am happy that the numbers have increased drastically, but most thrilled that I am being told first-hand by my readers that it is accomplishing its main purpose – having a positive impact on others. Thank you to all of you : )
  • I published my first e-book, “30 Days to a More Powerful Life”. For time and procrastination reasons it took almost three years for this to happen, but it did.
  • Gratitude – Early in the year I read a book called, “The Magic” by Rhonda Byrne. The book takes the reader on a 28 day gratitude journey. I took this journey, and it continues today. I never realized the true power of gratitude until doing this, and it has impacted my life in a positive and powerful way.
  • My ultimate goal is to work from home and make an excellent income by positively impacting the lives of thousands. I am not there yet, but I was offered two free courses that brought me much closer to this possibility. I received an official Law of Attraction certification which I hope to use to guide and coach others.
  • Spiritual Growth – Through all of these “blended” years, my relationship with God has grown and remained strong. However, it has never grown more than the past few months. I have never realized how much God’s spirit is actually a part of me and how much it guides every step I take. The power I have experienced has been immense.
  • Life Coaching – As mentioned above, it is my goal to ultimately help and coach others take their lives to the next level. To get an idea of how this works, I decided to regularly visit with a life coach myself to help me take the next steps and bring my own life to the next level. Why I waited so long, I don’t know. However, in November I began meeting with someone on a weekly basis. This person is a gem, and holds me accountable to take the necessary steps to achieve my goals. It’s another reason I feel much closer to reaching them.

There were some struggles to the year too. My marriage is surviving by the bare skin of its fingernails, and this has put a strain on our entire family. I am unsatisfied with my current job, and still frustrated that I haven’t grown in other areas. However, I know I have grown a great deal because instead of letting these things bring me down, I am using them as motivation to find solutions and help me grow. Let’s just say I am very thankful for 2013. The blessings far outweighed the struggles.

Celebrating Our Oneness

As we come close to another New Years celebration, I continued a tradition last night. I have a video (VHS) copy of the ABC 2000 celebration when Peter Jennings spent 23 straight hours on the air showing the millennium celebrations from all over the world.

I have always been very interested in other people and countries from around the world, so on that last night of 1999 I was absolutely captivated by what I was watching. I am still very interested in other people and cultures which is why I continue to enjoy this wonderful video now 14 years later.

In recent months, this interest in other people has been taken one step further. Why is it so important to love and serve other people? This is a question that’s been running inside my head, and I believe God is trying to talk to me about. Besides the fact it’s what he wants, I am seeing the bigger picture.

Especially lately, God has shown me that His spirit dwells in each of us. We all carry a part of Him wherever we go. Since it’s the same spirit, you and I all have something in common. We are from the same source. In essence, we are connected. A more simple, to the point example comes from Ephesians 4:25 which according to the amplified version says, “we are all parts of one body and members of one another”. In another words, I take this as saying we are all parts of the same whole. This connects us all.

What exactly does this mean? I have learned that what we do as a part affects the whole. I once read from author Wayne Dyer that, if we keep our attitude positive and loving and maintain a positive emotional state, we can automatically impact hundreds if not thousands of people in a positive way. At first I didn’t understand, but once I learned this concept of oneness, it made total sense. Think about this again. Simply by being your best self, you not only make things good for you and your “part”, but you affect the whole, thus impacting many other people.

I believe this is why you get what you give in life. When you give, you are giving to a part of the whole that you are already part of. In essence, you are giving to yourself. Does this make sense? In essence, when you make other people better you also make yourself better. I don’t know about you, but once I realized this it made me so much more willing to give and serve. I know that I am not giving to get something I return. I know that when I give, I am enhancing the spirit of God that we are all a part of. Since I am a part of it too, I benefit as well. The same is true for you.

As mentioned, I have always loved and appreciated people from everywhere. One of the great things about this blog is that I am able to meet and interact with people from all over the world, and I treasure that opportunity. I challenge you to see things in the new light I mention here. Realize that you are connected to everyone through the Spirit of God that is part of all of us. This goes for your friends and family, to the homeless person living on the street, or that person that gave you a dirty look at the supermarket, your angry boss, or whoever. Remember this fact the next time you begin to judge. Instead, I challenge you to appreciate that oneness and do all you can to add to it. You are a part of it, so you will certainly benefit from your positive actions. Enjoy the blessings : )


A Simple Way To Instantly Increase Positive Results

We’re nine days into the new year. How are doing with your New Years intentions so far? For me…so far, so good. I am paying special attention to one of these intentions. One I listed last week is that I refuse to take no for an answer. When it comes to achieving my goals, I’m only accepting yes. No is not an option.

At this point you may be saying that, as a Christian, I should understand that God sometimes says no. I understand, and I will partially agree. After all, I am in no way trying to play God here and think that I know best. In fact, I have written some articles on this site and provided examples of situations in my life where I am eternally greatful that my prayers were denied. However, I believe it’s time to stop looking at unanswered prayers as a no.

I still believe God has two answers for our prayers. Instead of yes and no, let’s start seeing it this way…the answer is either yes or something better. That’s it. By looking at it that way, nothing less than a yes is an option. If it’s not a yes, it’s something better! By living this way, it will develop your faith, and enable the miracles you are seeking to come forth. Even if it’s not exactly the way you planned it, it’s the way God intended, which is always the best.

There is nothing stronger than belief. When you pray with the knowledge that your prayer will be answered with a yes or something better, you are injecting major faith into your prayers and into your mind. When you act upon that faith, you are doing your part. Your faithful action combined with God’s touch and power in your life can bring nothing but an abundance of miracles. That’s definitely the type of life I want to live.

I am refusing to even consider a no when it comes to achieving my goals. When I pray, I expect a yes or something better. I challenge you to do the same. Please share your blessings. Have an excellent day!


A Powerful Way To Move Forward

As we enter a new year, many of us seek to grow, move forward, and accomplish unrealized goals. We long to take advantage of this annual fresh start we are granted and take our lives to a higher level.

As I seek Heavenly guidance on how to accomplish these new feats in my life, I am continually receiving the same message. I feel as if God is revealing the key to moving ahead in life. That key is…be fully content exactly where you are. What??!! How can I ever move ahead if I’m being told to be happy where I am now? It’s an interesting question, but one I think we need to pay a great deal of attention to.

I have found two Bible verses that summarize this concept. The first is from I Timothy 6:6, and it says: Godliness with contentment is great gain. One version says the combination of Godliness with contentment is great and abundant wealth. This tells me that those of us looking to grow and advance need to do two things. One is to rely on God and obey His commands. The other is to be consciously thankful on a regular basis for the blessings we have already received. Also, this tells me that, no matter how much we want to move ahead, we must place our full focus on our current situations and responsibilities.

The defintion of contentment from another Bible version leads me to our next verse. The simple definition according to the Amplified Bible is a sense of inward sufficiency. I see this as being a constant satisfaction with my self and circumstances, even when things may not be going according to my desires. Another excellent verse is Philippians 4:12-13. The apostle Paul says, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well-fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want”. The key comes in verse 13…I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.

Remember that defintion of contentment…a sense of inward sufficiency. When we rely on God’s strength, He who lives inside us provides all of the inward sufficiency we need! Knowing this, we can move in step with HIm, and be led to the places and opportunities that will move us ahead. However, that can only happen if we focus on and appreciate our current situations.

I live with the firm belief that, the more thankful we are, the more blessings we will receive. When we are content in our current circumstances, we continually maintain an attitude of gratitude that will bring us to the situations to take us to the next level.

In conclusion, if you are looking to move ahead in life, the best way to do so is by appreciating your current circumstances, devoting your full energy to them, and trusting in the God that does all things for our good. If you follow this formula, you will soon be in the higher place you are seeking, and enjoy blessings beyond your imagination. I’m sure that’s something you can definitely be content with. 2012 New Years Intentions

It’s that time of the year again. We reflect on what was, and determine what is to be. Here’s that take from this author’s perspective…

As I look back on 2011, I say it was good. Nothing great, nothing horrible. The negative is that several of the goals set at the beginning of the year still remain unaccomplished. The positive is that I learned a lot. As in more than I have in a long time. Now it’s time to apply that knowledge to enable all of 2012’s goals to be realized.

So here we go. My intentions for 2012. I call them intentions because I don’t like the word resolution. To me, a resolution is something to try and that we hope to accomplish. It works for a month, and then we are often back to the old habits. An intention is something that is going to get done. Period. I believe we need to approach our goals with that attitude. Here now, the 2012 intentions:

  • Seek God first. It’s the obvious choice for number one. However, it’s something I often lost sight of in 2011. In order to succeed, I need to see things from His point of view, not mine. The more I am consciously aware of His presence and stick to His agenda, the more successful I will be.
  • Double my income. Yes you heard me. No I am not naming it and claiming it. I am constantly told to have faith and pray big. I often recommend it myself. Well here goes. I pray that God forgives me for my financial mis-management and poor stewardship. I pray that He shows me the way to make this happen. I feel that, if we’re not going to pray big, what’s the sense in doing so?
  • I intend to have faith and banish all doubt. I’ve taken no for an answer long enough. Now it’s time to believe that my time has come, visualize success, do my part, then know God will make it happen.
  • I intend to be content and enjoy the moment. Time moves quickly, and I sometimes allow it to go by without savoring the positive experiences of life. Also, sometimes I am too caught up in future events and goals that I don’t focus on and appreciate present day successes. Life is so much better when we enjoy present moments and victories, regardless of how big or small they are.
  • I intend to serve others. There are several great examples in my life of people who make a habit of selflessly serving others. It is a fact that, as we determine what people want and help them get it, we experience major blessings in our own lives. Besides this, I believe it is simply what God wants me to do, and I willingly obey.

The Power of Beginnings

What do you think of when you see or hear “the beginning”? For me, it’s one of the most refreshing, optimistic phrases in our language. For example, we have entered a new year. Whatever happened last year or in any past year is done. Whatever mistakes I have made are buried. In this new year I have several goals I wish to accomplish. At this time I feel nothing but optimism. No obstacles have moved in my way. I haven’t failed or procrastinated yet. There is nothing except the feeling of optimism that I will accomplish these goals.

This same concept is true in any area of life. I am a big sports fan, and especially like baseball. One of the grandest days in sports is opening day of the baseball season. The feeling of optimism exudes. Every team has a fresh start and the belief that they can win a championship. This feeling exists for teams and players, regardless of how much they have failed in the past or what the so called experts are predicting.

Let us take this same optimism with us as this new year begins. More importantly, let us maintain this feeling of optimism and allow it to snowball to greater successes and victories. Let no one (especially yourself) say it can’t be done; when obstacles arise (and they certainly will), keep your mind fixed confidently on the desired outcome, knowing that it will still be accomplished.

One of the things I am most thankful for, is that God gives us this new beginning every 365 days. Now matter how much we believe we haven’t accompished yet (please know you’ve already accomplished a great deal), we are allowed a new start. In fact, God is even more generous than that. He allows us a new chance every 24 hours! The key is to take advantage of each of these time slots to move ahead to the accomplishment of our goals.

As this new year begins, I find it helpful to do two things. One is to thank God for the great blessings we have received in the past year, and previous years. Second, is to thank Him for this wonderful beginning and fresh start. Keep your mind fixed on the successful accomplishment of your goal, and the God that will help you get there. That combination has the makings of a very successful 2012. Enjoy the blessings : )
