What Do You Want Me To Do For You?

February 24, 2013

I very much enjoy reading the miracle stories in the Bible. There are plenty of them from cover to cover. However, certain ones stand out.

One such story jumped off the page at me the other day. It’s in all of the gospels, but I pariticularly like the version from Mark 10:46-52. It’s the story of a blind man who was begging on the side of the road in town. He was just living his life, doing what he normally does and accepting his lot in life.

Things change when Jesus arrives in town. Somehow, this man already knew about Jesus because as soon as he finds out Jesus is there, he starts shouting out, asking that Jesus have mercy on him. The people around him tell him to be quiet and to stop shouting. However, he continues to shout out until Jesus acknowledges him. Jesus asks, “what do you want me to do for you”? The man says he wants his sight. Jesus says, “your faith has made you well”. It then says the man immediately received his sight.

I love this story and its happy ending. However, I see it as more than that. I see it as the exact recipe that, if you want miracles in your life, you can follow and receive them. Here’s why:

1. This man refused to accept no for an answer. As soon as he was aware of Jesus’s presence he did not stop until he had his attention.

2. He did not listen to other people. They tried to quiet him and get him to stop, but he refused to let them get in his way.

3. My favorite part of the story is when Jesus asks “what do you want me to do for you?” Jesus knew darn well what the man wanted. So why did He ask? I believe He wanted to hear it directly from the individual. He wanted the man to present the need to Him personally.

4. He had faith. He immediately perked up when he heard Jesus was there because he had 100% faith that He was the one that could heal him.

5. He let Jesus do His work.

There you have it. A 5 step recipe that I believe anyone could use to see miracles in their life. Are you looking for a miracle? Then I challenge you. Start seeking it now and don’t stop until you are fully convinced that you have God’s attention. Don’t listen to other people that try to stop you or say it can’t be done. Pray and let your request be known. God already knows what you want before you ask Him, but He still wants to hear it from your lips of prayer. Have faith and KNOW that He can and will answer. Remember, even if it’s not exactly what you are looking for, it will be something better. Then let God do His work.

The great thing about the miracle stories is that I never saw any where Jesus said no. People asked in faith and were given what they asked for. He will do the same for you if you follow this way of thinking. Please share here when they happen for you because I would love to hear about it. Enjoy the blessings : )

How Did The Miracle Happen?

February 23, 2013

I am one who very much appreciates the sport of ice hockey. I am also very interested in history. Hence the reason I paid attention today when I was reminded of a particular anniversary.

It was on this date in 1980 that the Miracle On Ice occured. In case you don’t know or haven’t seen the movie (Miracle) that was made about it, it was a big event, not only in the sports world, but the political world as well. The United States hockey team beat the Soviet Union in a semi-final Olympic game. This was major because the Cold War was still strong at this time, so it was more than just a hockey victory. It certainly had patriotic and political implications, besides the stakes of a big hockey game.

On the ice, this was a stunning victory. The Soviet team consisted of their most skilled professionals, while the United States team was a group of amateurs who had only played together during the Olympics and the preparation games before. The two teams had played an exhibition shortly before the Olympics, and the Soviets won something like 10-2. Much of the same was expected in this game. However, somehow, some way, the U.S. team that was given no chance to win (even by fellow Americans) pulled off the victory.

How did this victory happen? It can only come down to one word..Belief. No one else believed they even had a chance. The Soviets were bigger, better, and more experienced. They had beaten them badly a few weeks ago. For all of these reasons, the Americans didn’t stand a chance. Yet these players and coaches ignored all of the obstacles. They ignored all of the people who were convinced it could never be done. They didn’t even consider that they were amateurs going against experienced and skilled professionals. Instead, they set a goal, made a plan, envisioned success, and didn’t even think about losing this game. Instead, they believed 100% that they were good enough and fully capable of winning. That’s how the miracle happened.

As I reflect on this event 33 years later, I realize how those same lessons can be applied in any area of my life, and I share them with you. How do miracles happen in your life? First, you ignore all of the obstacles and people who try to convince you it can’t be done. Then you set a goal, make a plan, envision success, and don’t even think about failure. Instead, believe 100% that you are worthy, and fully capable of success and miracles in your life. Believe that there are no other options! That’s how miracles happen in your life.

If you’re like me, the mere mention of this hockey game brings back the wonderful memories and flood of emotions every time. I challenge you to use the lessons from this improbable victory to create success and miracles in your life. Remember, with faith all things are possible. Enjoy the blessings : )

Following The Yield Sign

December 19, 2012

When I was very young, I quickly became familiar with some of the signs of the road. I wasn’t driving of course, but I was proud to know that the green light meant go, and red meant stop. I learned that the octagon shaped, red sign also meant stop. The yellow signs meant I needed to be cautious of pedestrians, animals, or slippery conditions. However, one sign always confused me. It was that read triangle one that said yield. What does yield mean?, I thought to myself. It was weird. I couldn’t figure it out because sometimes people stopped, sometimes they slowed down, or sometimes they just kept going without changing their speed.

Today I am fully aware of what the yield signs. I learned that it ultimately means giving the right of way. Sometimes I need to stop completely. Somtimes I just need to slow down, and other times I can keep going at pretty much the same speed. However, recently I have learned the importance of yielding  in life. Not so much to other cars, but more to other forces.

What am I talking about? Specifically, I am talking about yielding to God’s power in my life. His power and wisdom is readily available to me. It’s a part of me. It’s part of you. The key is to give it the right of way. We often don’t do that. Life gets so busy and we get so caught up in its fast pace that we go right through the sign. We try to do everything in our own power. However, that often makes things more difficult.

My challenge now is to yield to the true power that is in us. Get out of the way and let God’s power take over. It knows the answers and actions to take. It can accomplish far more than we ever could. It is the power blessings and miracles are made of. Once again, it’s all part of us, waiting to manifest. It’s just a matter of us stepping out of the way and letting it do its work.

I don’t know about you, but I’m done getting in the way of the great power that is in me and wanting to work in my life. It’s time to yield to God’s great power and depend on it instead of relying on my own ego and limited power. I challenge you to do the same. Sometimes you can go ahead, sometimes you need to move slowly, and sometimes you may need to stop completely. The key is to obey the yield sign and yield to the power of God that is part of you. Let it do its great work and watch the miracles take place. You will be blessed in a major way : )

Set The Goal Extra High

August 19, 2012

I read a quote from “The Secret” earlier. It says, “set the goal so high that, if you achieved it, you would be blown away.”

I believe we all need to be reminded of this thought on a regular basis. How many of us live each day just to get by? It’s very easy to do in this fast-paced society where there is much more to do than hours available to do them. I know there are days I am so busy that I am satisfied just to get to the end of it unscathed.

I have quickly learned that if you constantly live each day hoping to get through it, you may or you may not. And your chances of moving to a higher level are limited. However, if your aim is to take your life to the next level, the above philosophy is one that you need to live by. If you look at miracles and great feats that have happened in history or to people around you, it’s because these individuals dreamed big and had the faith to see their dreams realized. Some of these people shared stories of being completely healed of incurable sickness. Others have provided things like light bulbs, airplanes, and a world wide web of information. It’s people like this that were not satisfied to just get through the days and accept the status quo. Instead, they all dreamed big and experienced “impossible” miracles.

Let us strive to reach the next level. Set goals according to your desires that are so high, it would be miraculous to reach it. You have the faith, see it happen in your mind, do your part, and let God do His. Soon those great achievements won’t be miracles anymore. They will become regular occurences.

Set the bar high and go for it. I encourage you to share your victories with us here, and with those around you. Enjoy the blessings : )

Be Aware Of Your Magnificent Power

April 19, 2012

Do you know how much power you have within you? If you are like most people in this world you probably don’t. I was listening to a speech from author/speaker John Bevere the other day. He discussed a study of Christians (a group of people that certainly should be aware of the power they have) where only 2% were aware of how much potential power they have.

Humans are very good at not using their full potential. After all, studies show we only use about 10% of our brains. This includes some very smart people, so can you imagine how smart they would be if they even used twice that amount? In the sermon mentioned earlier, John Bevere discussed the concept of God’s grace. He explained that, besides being a free gift from God that forgives our sins and rewards us with eternal heaven, it is the spiritual empowerment that God provides. It’s the stuff that miracles come from. This is what he found that 98% of Christians don’t know.

There is a magnificent power within every one of us. The Bible is full of verses. Luke 17:22 specifically says, “the kingdom of heaven is within us” Not just the spirit, but the entire kingdom! 2 Timothy 1:7 says God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. In John 14 God says he sends His spirit to empower us, and there are many examples of this, especially in the book of Acts.

The bottom line is that we are all blessed with incredible power. The problem is that most people ( I often include myself in this category) often rely on their own limited power instead of the unlimited power available to them. Why would I want to take on the challenges of life with my many limitations while I have a power with no limits? I don’t know, but I often do. However, that ends now, and I challenge anyone reading this to do the same. Instead, let us constantly be aware of and rely on the wonderful powerful within. That power knows so much more, can be so much more, and accomplish so more than we could ever think of in our own power. Let us prayerfully summon the assistance that God can provide, and use the power as we go through our lives. Let us use it to improve our own lives, and to serve and be an example to others.

We can take our worlds and those of others to a much higher level. That power waits in every one of us. However, don’t let it lay like a dormant volcano. Instead, let it explode and take you places you’ve never even dreamed. I promise that when you stop relying on your own power and ego and instead rely on the Godly spirit and power within you, you will see rapid positive changes in every area of your life. I’ve experienced it and seen it in too many other places to know any different. Remember…you have the power. Now use it fully! Enjoy the blessings : )

Big Prayers

October 20, 2011

Have you ever experienced the extreme power of prayer? Those times where an answer to a difficult situation is as far away as heaven itself, and you desperately cry out to God? Then suddenly an answer arrives just like that. It’s not just any answer, but a mind-blowing, divine response that is far greater than anything you could have imagined.

I’ve experienced this at times in my life, and I want more! Is it possible to experience results like this on a regular basis? I believe it is. How? It’s about how we pray. I have found that God will give us whatever we expect. It’s easy to pray small, simple prayers. We do that often because our minds can only conceive small results.

I believe it’s time to change the above way of thinking. God is waiting for us to pray big. What are big prayers? They are prayers for things that there is no way we can bring about results on our own. Prayers that go above and beyond our small conceptions and perceptions, and results that can only be brought about by God. When we pray these types of prayers, then we see God begin to move in our lives.

Why don’t people pray these prayers all the time then? I think it’s because, for some strange reason, that there is a limit to the amount of blessing we can receive in our lives. They believe we are not worthy to receive such great things in our lives. They think miracles can happen for other people, but not for them. I can vouch for this as I often thought like this in the past. If this is you, please cease such thinking at once. There are no limits to the amount of blessing we can receive in our lives. And if you have faith, miracles can happen in your life too. It’s simply a matter of asking for them and believing in them.

I have learned an interesting fact through my reading about blessings we receive in our lives. Some of us are lucky enough to have many blessings, some that we never even asked for. However, in many cases, God will not bless us unless we ask. He is actually holding the blessings for us, and will release them upon our request. This tells me that I have missed out on many blessings in life because I never asked for them. I may not know what they were until I get to heaven. On the other side, it tells me that if Ican learn to ask for big things and look beyond my own limited imagination, I can receive so much more in my life than I already have. Now that’s reason for optimism!

The next time you pray, be sure to pray beyond the ordinary good. Seek greatness that only God can provide. Then make sure you are prepared, because you will most likely receive blessings you may not even be ready for. Just be sure to still gladly accept them! God wants to bless you abundantly. Ask big and you will receive beyond big. Enjoy the blessings : )

Everlasting Faith

September 21, 2011

Is your faith lacking these days? If things are difficult and you are facing many obstacles, it is often easy to lose faith.

There are times in my life where my faith is not as strong as it could be. When this happens it is alarming to me because there are many verses in the Bible that stress the importance of faith. According to your faith it will be done for you. Anything is possible to him who has faith. Without faith who can expect to receive anything from God? Those are just a few of them. These verses are great when our faith is high. With great faith we can experience miracles in our life. However, what if we lack that miracle working faith?

I read a very re-assuring Bible verse the other day. It is from 2 Timothy 2:13. It says, “if we remain faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself”. This verse tells me several things. First of all, God expects that there will be times in our life where negative circumstances cause us to lose faith. He understands. Also, the last part of that verse reminds me that He has a plan for our lives. He has a will that He will not allow to be denied. Even though our faith may be low, He will still remain with us and will never turn His back on us.

This idea reminds me of a young child learning to ride a bicycle. At first, the child does not have the faith to ride by himself. What a good father or mother would then do is guide them along. Have the child do the work of pushing the pedals and balancing the bike while they assist by holding on to the bike. After all, they understand the child’s fear, and they wouldn’t want them to fall because they were not ready to ride on their own. However, if the child keeps working at it, they eventually develop the confidence and faith to ride without the guiding hand of their parent. Their faith has increased to where they know they can complete the task.

I believe this same scenario is true in our daily adult lives. As long as we make the effort and persist, God will lovingly guide us. Eventually, we will get to the point where our faith grows, and we can complete those tasks that we originally didn’t believe we could. As we continually test our faith for greater things, we will be blessed more and more. We will see greater success and enjoy a more joyful, rewarding life.

It is important to have faith if we want greatness in our lives. However, when it is difficult to believe, know that God is still there with us helping us get to where we need to be. There aren’t many things more assuring than that.

Have an excellent day : )
