A Successful Key To Beating The Obstacles

June 13, 2013

Have you ever completed an obstacle course? I always found them fun, yet frustrating at the same time. I had to go around or through several obstacles in order to reach the finish line. I like the challenge of it, though sometimes it seemed a bit long and drawn out. I began to wonder if I would ever make it to the end : )

Isn’t that how we often consider obstacles in life? There are some challenges we find interesting, and we enjoy the opportunities they present. In other cases, we dread obstacles because they keep us from reaching the finish line of our dreams and goals. In some cases, we get so frustrated that we give up before we even come close to reaching those goals.

Many will ask…how can we avoid allowing these obstacles to prevent us from reaching our goals? I found a powerful quote today that I believe holds the key…”obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal” – Joseph Cossman. The key is to keep your eyes fixed firmly on the goal. When you do this, nothing or no one will be able to stop you from getting where you want to go.

There are many examples of people who refused to let obstacles get in the way. I am a sports lover, and often see athletes that are so determined to win that they play at a level even higher than their normal greatness. You can often see that look in their eyes, and you know nothing or no one is getting in their way of success.

You too will find success if you simply keep focused on the goal. If you do, you won’t even know the obstacles in front of you exist. Even if they linger, you will have little difficulty conquering them.

Many people don’t accomplish their goals because the obstacles they face create doubt and fear. When you remain completely focused on the goal, you don’t leave room for doubt and fear to creep in. Instead, you only leave room for faith and success.

Keep your eyes fixed on the goal, and refuse to take no for an answer. You will see yourself accomplishing more and more success by following this simple formula. Enjoy the blessings : )

It’s On Its Way

June 10, 2013

I had a conversation with a relative the other day. She mentioned that she had a little extra money. As a nice gesture she said she mailed $20 to me, and I can expect to receive it soon.

I was very happy and thankful about this nice gesture! As I thought about it more, it also provided a valuable reminder about faith. In the past, I would pray for something, but at times would lack the confidence that I would receive what I asked for. As a result, I firmly believe I missed out on some of God’s intended blessings.

There are many that are like this today. In many ways, they do all the right things. They pray, maintain positive thoughts, and take action. However, they miss the key ingredient of faith. Instead of focusing on the successful outcome, they worry about how it’s going to happen, or worse, if it’s going to happen. If this is you, there may be some wonderful blessings that you are missing out on.

I challenge you to use the opening example as an inspiration. When you desire something, follow the helpful steps of praying, affirming/visualizing, and taking action. Then think of the realized goal as if someone said they were sending it to you in the mail. It may not be there right away, but you can have the joyful expectation that your blessing is on its way, and the assurance that it will eventually arrive.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t even want the possibility of missing out on any of God’s blessings. I will end with my favorite Scripture verse…whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours (Mark 11:24). Believe your dreams are on their way, and you will see them fulfilled. Enjoy the blessings : )

P.S. I recently wrote another post about this topic. If you would like to check it out, here’s the link…

An Alternate Definition Of Success

June 8, 2013

“Success is a state of mind. If you want success, start thinking of yourself as a success” – Joyce Brothers.

I love this quote. I have realized that, in many ways, this is exactly what success is…it’s simply a state of mind. Think of the things that you are good at. Isn’t it true that one of the main reasons you are good at it is because you think you are? Actually, it’s because you KNOW you are. You KNOW you will succeed.

If you are seeking success in other areas of life, I challenge you to convince yourself of success. How can you do this?

  • Know that the Spirit of all success lives within you. You have a spirit of unlimited power that makes up your very being. Meditate on it, and be that power.
  • Success affirmations. Repeat positive, powerful statements to yourself on a regular basis throughout the day. Statements like, “I am success (see the first bullet); I succeed in all I do; I am confident that I will succeed; or whatever statements will lead you to the success you desire.
  • Visualize success. Take times during the day to pause from the busy pace and envision yourself experiencing and enjoying the success you crave. Then feel the positive emotions you would feel as if you were actually experiencing the success at that moment.

These are some basic ways to gear your mindset towards success. Remember, success is a state of mind, and you will only be as successful as you allow yourself to be.

Why not set your level of success as high as you can? See yourself getting there and reaping the benefits of your great success. Maintain that successful state of mind, and you will know no other way. Enjoy the blessings : )

How Much Power Do You Have?

May 17, 2013

On a scale from 1-10, how much power do you think you have?

Can you answer that question? I will say that you cannot. The reason is that the power you possess goes far beyond any scale you can imagine. There’s a quote from “The Secret” that says, “we all work with one infinite power”.

That power lives in you, and is a part of your being. It is with you at all times, waiting to be summoned for your good. The key is to be consciously aware of it as much as possible, know that it exists, and know that it is endless and readily available at all times.

Please do not use a 1-10 scale to measure your power. In fact, don’t use any finite scale. The Spiritual power you possess is endless and limitless. So how are you going to use it to positively impact your world and those around you? Have an awesome day : )

A Breakdown Of What Faith Really Is

May 8, 2013

Every once in a while I like to take words that are important for positive and abundant living, and break them down to their most basic parts. It’s a very helpful exercise. For example, I’ve been concentrating on increasing my faith lately. I decided to break it down, and it is amazing what I came up with. I gladly share this information with you.

I have always been familiar with the Biblical definition of faith, so I start with that. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as the assurance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things unseen. That definition is enough to really make one think, but I took it a step further and was amazed. When I defined the word assurance, this is what I found…A positive declaration intended to give confidence; a promise. It adds…Confidence or certainty in one’s own abilities. These words are definitely encouraging. I took it one step further and defined hopefulness. The simple definition I found was “joyful expectation”.

When I put it all together, it sounds like this. Being confident and certain that the things I joyfully expect will come to pass. I positively declare this as a promise from God.

Wow! When faith is broken down this way, it shed a whole new light on the topic! If you are trying to increase your faith and take it to the next level, I believe you have just found the key. Start with a joyful expectation that the things you desire will come to pass. Then be confident and certain that it will!

I can read some of your minds right now. You want to know how do I do this? One way that works great is to visualize the success you are seeking. Spend time imagining how much better your life will be as if you already have what you desire. See yourself in this new life and live as if it’s already yours. Another suggestion is to pray and meditate whenever you can. This closeness with God always increases your confidence in what you have come to joyfully expect. These are only two ways. If there is anything else that works for you, please do it.

The Bible and today’s society are filled with stories about how great things were accomplished with simple faith. For example, in sports inferior teams sometimes win championships simply because they are confident and expect to win regardless of what the “experts” say. Many miracles happen because people have confidence in God’s promises and expect to see His great work in their lives.

I challenge you today to focus on this definition of faith and live it out. Joyfully expect your goals to be met and your dreams to come true. Be confident that they will come to pass. You’ll be amazed how your faith will grow, and your life will change dramatically. I’ve seen it happen in my own life and in many others. If you have any suggestions about what you do to increase your faith, I encourage you to share. In the meantime, enjoy the blessings of this great day : )

Who Sets The Limits?

February 21, 2013

Can you imagine if there was no such thing as a speed limit? Although it may be a bit crazy at times, it would be nice to have the freedom to drive without limits, especially if you need to be sompeplace quickly. Who sets these limits anyway? In many cases, we are critical of people who put limits on our lives. Nobody likes to be restrained.

I will add a part two to the above question. Who sets the limits in your life? How many limits do you have? I will say that I don’t like to be limited. However, as I have asked myself the question about limits and figure out who to direct my anger at for putting limits in my life, I quickly realize who is to blame. I’ll give you a hint. He shares the same name and body space as me. It is me! When I experience limits and lack of progress, I have no one to blame but myself. Other people can try to limit me, but they only succeed if I let them.

I serve a God of unlimited power. That power is part of me. I wonder how He must feel when He offers this power freely, and I reject it, only to put my own limits on it. Of course I don’t do it deliberately. Regardless, there is no need to focus on any limitations, especially when God’s unlimited power is readily available.

It’s amazing the ideas I receive when I am about to write a post. Just before I was ready to write this, I received an e-mail from Dr. Robert Anthony. It expalains that if you took a goldfish who was confined to a small bowl and put it in the ocean, it would still swim in a limited area as long as it was alive. It’s because it doesn’t understand that it can now go beyond its limits. He thinks that going any further is impossible.

Please don’t be like the goldfish. It’s a simple fact that if you don’t set limits on your success you won’t have them. You’re only as limited as you think you are. I have learned to stop confining myself to the fishbowl and instead have learned to throw myself into the ocean. I challenge you to do the same. You can slow yourself down or go as fast as you would like.

So why not go all out? Success is yours if you believe it. Let God carry you. If He doesn’t want to carry you somewhere He won’t. He’ll take you someplace even better. As long as something you desire is in His will, He won’t stop you from getting there. So don’t you be the reason your success is limited. Go fo it, full speed ahead. Enjoy the blessings : )

An Easy Way To Increase Your Talents

February 19, 2013

There are certain Bible verses that I have read numerous times and still have difficulty understanding. One such story is the parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30). It always bothered me a bit because it says whoever has much will have more, and whoever has little will have less.

Why did this verse bother me so much? Because there were plenty of things I had little of, and only few that I had much of. My question was…I have little money. You’re telling me that my only chance is to have less? I’m not very confident. You’re telling me my confidence will only weaken?

Not too long ago, I had a chance to look at this story again. It’s amazing how, when we persist on learning Scripture God eventually sheds light on things and they make total sense. If you’re not familiar with the story, I’ll provide the basic version. A rich, shrewd man is going on a journey, and leaves his wealth in the hands of three people. To one he gives 10 money units (these units are called Talents. Funny how it fits right in with this story. More on that later). To one he provides 5, and to the other, 1. The ones with the 10 and 5 talents invest wisely and double the amount, while the one with 1 is scared off and just buries the 1, getting nothing in return. When the manager returns, he praises the first two, but punishes the third for not trying to gain more. He takes the one talent and gives it to the man with 10. That’s when Jesus says that whoever has will have more, and whoever doesn’t will have less.

As I studied this story I found three commentaries which clarified the meaning of this for me. Before I share, I will say that I did not go looking for these explanations, but just found them all around the same time. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Anyway, here are the three commentaries:

1. According to the Life Application Bible, the story means we need to use the resources God provides us to the best of our ability. Whether we have many or few, we need to use them responsibly and according to His will.

2. One book I read said that it had to do with the thoughts we think and our overall attitude. The more positive frame of mind and attitude we maintain, the more positive results we see in our lives.

3. In her book “The Magic” by Rhonda Byrne, she uses this quote throughout, saying that the more gratitude we show and feel, even towards the smallest of things, the more reasons we will have to be grateful for bigger things.

I must say that I agree with all three of these conclusions. At this point, this previously unclear story is now as clear as the day. You have received many gifts from God. He expects you to use them wisely and responsibly, and will bless you as you do. The more you fill your mind with positives thoughts and outcomes, the more you will see greater positive results play out in your life. And the more grateful you are, the more reasons you will have to be grateful. It’s a simple, but true fact that your talents and whatever else you have will be increased proportionally.

Now that I am fully aware of the true meaning of that story, I do my best to act it out every day. I must say that my walk with God is closer than it’s ever been, and I am being blessed on a continual basis. Even if you feel like you don’t have many talents, God will increase them if you are resourceful, positive, and thankful. Enjoy the blessings : )
