How Was 2014?

December 30, 2014

End of Year 2014

We have already arrived at the end of this “new” year (seems like it just started yesterday) 2014. I hope yours was a great one.

As I like to give me readers occasional glimpses inside my head, I will complete one of my annual “selfish” posts and share some of my own reflections of this past year. For me, 2014 was like the past five years. I was optimistic that this would be the breakthrough year where my greatest dreams would come true. Although it didn’t quite happen, it was a year of serious personal growth that has taken me steps closer to realizing my ultimate goals.

My greatest growth was a spiritual strengthening and renewal. My Christian walk has grown steadily for the past few years. However, I realized more than ever that the kingdom of heaven is within me, and that God’s spirit is not only near me, but an actual part of me. Reading books like Wayne Dyer’s “Wishes Fulfilled”, and St. Germain’s “I Am Discourses” really enlightened me to this truth and helped me begin to live it out. I also benefited greatly from learning more about the importance of living in the present moment instead of dwelling on past or worrying about the future. Eckhart Tolle’s book “The Power of the Present Moment” was a great help in getting me there. It’s a book I tried to read in the past but found it very difficult to understand. I guess the timing was right this time around and it truly resonated each time I read it. Regardless, I discovered that living in the present moment is truly one of our greatest powers.

In other areas of my life, there was some growth, while some areas didn’t grow as much as I would have liked. The greatest blessing was in the financial area as this was far and away my greatest financial year. We were able to put a significant dent in out debt and paid most of it off completely. I was provided a different part time job in addition to my teaching that paid twice what the previous one did.

The one area that still needs great improvement is my leadership at home. People tell me I am a good father, and I believe it. I still feel like I could be a much better husband and leader. I am home less due to the work schedule, which makes it a bit difficult. That will be major focus for next year. Speaking of jobs, I am less than happy with either of them. On the other hand, I am extremely happy to have them, and thankful for the income and impacts I can have on other people, especially adolescents. My ultimate goal is to work one job from home, and steps were taken this year to potentially make that happen.

Finally, I can also be thankful for the great health of myself and my family. We are very well protected, and none of us was sick for an extended period of time. Even among my crazy schedule, I did not miss any days because of extended sickness.

The bottom line, as I end another year, is I have SO much to be thankful for. I serve a God that has only my best in store, wants to bless me abundantly, and is a part of my very being. I take this with me as I head into 2015. I am setting some major goals, and look forward to the journey to reach them.

I thank you for staying with me for one person’s take on this past year. I invite you to share how 2014 was for you. I hope you have grown and can also eagerly look forward to 2015. Enjoy the blessings 🙂

Snovember…Buffalo Snowstorm of 2014

November 19, 2014

I live in the town of Lancaster NY. It’s a nice town about 15 miles east of Buffalo. If you’ve seen the news lately, you know that we are being bombarded with snow. It’s easily the most snow I’ve ever experienced in one day. We received about 4 and a half feet in one day, with another foot or two yet to come.

We’ve had extreme snow before. After all, this is Buffalo. In January 1999 we received 7 feet in a month. In December 2001 we received 7 feet in a week. Now in November 2014 we may receive 7 feet (175cm) in 2 or 3 days.

I will honestly say I hate the snow. It’s my fault because I chose to live here (I moved here from Long Island 23 years ago). I knew what I was getting into, but I’ve grown weary of the snow in the past few years, especially last winter which was a brutal one. However, I promote the power of positivity at this site, and there are certainly some positives I can bring from this experience:

  • I work two jobs, almost 60 hours a week. Neither one is accessible, so I may end up with a 4 day vacation.
  • It could be worse. I am being inconvenienced and having to do hard labor in removing piles of snow. That’s it, and it’s only for a few days. I’m not losing my home or going through a life altering hurricane, tornado, earthquake or flood. In fact, as soon as I get tired shoveling (too much snow for the blower) I go back into my heated house.
  • Family time. None of us is going anywhere for several days. We are able to spend extra quality time together and enjoy each other’s company. We’re already making plans for the next few days as well 🙂
  • I’m living history. How many people can say they dealt with 4 feet of snow in one day? Even people that have lived here for over 50 years are saying they’ve never experienced anything like this. Let’s face it, we’ll be talking about this once in a lifetime (hopefully) experience for many years to come. As much as I dislike the snow, I admit that I am enjoying this moment of unique history and I can say I was there.

I will say that I don’t wish this on anyone. It only confirms my desire to one day move to warmer climates once my kids are done with their schooling. But as I said, it could be worse. If you need a visual of what this may look like, here you go. By the way, in the 4th picture with the “mountains” there are cars under there. Hopefully it will help you appreciate the weather in your part of the world. Have a great day 🙂

Show You Care

September 8, 2014

People don’t care about how much you know until they know how much you care.

I heard this quote from Joel Osteen the other day. It was a great reminder. We are often quick to share what we know or what we believe other people should be doing. Instead, the challenge is to show people you care by being a good listener and demonstrate a willingness to serve. Your message will get across and you will make a difference in a much more powerful way.

Have a wonderful day 🙂

The Fabric Of Reality

July 25, 2014

The primary reason I began this blog is to share the many great ideas I have learned from my journey as a Christian, and information I have learned from the many books I have read about personal development.

I use this information to dictate how I live my life. However, I am always open to new ideas and new perspectives. I was presented with one of these new perspectives recently from a friend named Nissim Levy. I share this perspective with you here…

Inspirational Message From a Kid

April 2, 2014

I always like receiving pep talks, don’t you? There are many inspirational adults who know just the right things to say to build me up, cheer me up, or simply kick me in the butt to get me moving.

I received one such message the other day. We showed it to the students in our school one morning. I believe they enjoyed it. I KNOW I did. The ironic part is that this message came from a kid!

Are you looking for some motivation and inspiration today? I share this short video with you. The main message is that you were made to dance and make a difference in this world, but it isn’t going to happen by just sitting there. it also says that everyone has something to give and make this world better.

This is true, isn’t it? Yet too many of us instead worry about our failures and how far we are from our goals. Yes, there are obstacles and the success you crave may seem like a long way off. However, if you have faith and stay with it you can make things happen. That’s what the most successful people do.

I encourage you to check out this video and wisdom from the kid. I know you will be inspired like my students, fellow teachers, and I have been. Enjoy 🙂

A Creative Way to Use Your Past

March 20, 2014

I spend a great deal of time on this space discussing the importance of the present moment. I often share (as do many other people who are much smarter than me) the importance of remaining focused on the now and not allowing the past to hold us back.

I have also shared before that our past is not completely useless. We can certainly use it as a guide. Instead of letting past mistakes hold us back by creating feelings of guilt or fear, we can learn from them and avoid making the same ones again. However, I was reminded recently that we can actually focus on other parts of our past. Just as we have made mistakes and done things incorrectly, we also have successes and triumphs that we can learn from. We don’t want to live off them and stop growing, but reflecting on these times of success can be very helpful.

It was suggested to spend time in the present moment thinking of a time in your past when you felt great about a successful achievement or about a satisfying event in your life. Relish the joy and the positive feelings all over again. Keep focused on it until it overtakes your entire being. When you do this, you are creating positive feelings NOW, even though this is something that happened before. When you maintain these positive feelings and increase your energy, it opens the door for more of the same. You are thus setting yourself up for blessings. According to the Law of Attraction, you create your future by what you think now.

I am learning more each day how maintaining a positive energy and high vibration as some say can make you a magnet for attracting your desires. I recommend you especially focus on a particular desire you have. Use this technique to go back to a time in your life where you had what you are seeking. For example, if you are seeking greater joy and happiness these days, go back to a time or event that brought you joy. Feel that joy all over again. If you are seeking a new relationship, think back to a time when  you were in a fulfilling relationship. If you’ve never had one before, think of a time where you felt the rush of someone attractive looking at you, smiling at you, or giving you any kind of attention.

The ideas are endless, but the concept is the same. You can use past events NOW to increase your positive energy and emotional state. It will increase your faith and confidence and lead you to take the steps to bring your desires to you. You don’t have to take a long time to do this, and I guarantee you will find it very powerful and very uplifting. Try it, and please let me know how it works for you. Enjoy the blessings 🙂

A Positive Mindset

From the news to everyday conversations with people it’s easy to see that we live in a world that will try to squeeze us into its negative mold.  Having a positive mindset changes our perspective of life and can propel us toward opportunities all around us.  To remain positive we must continually make the decision to resist negative thoughts that come to our mind.  Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mold, but let God re-mold your minds from within…” (PHILLIPS)  God gives us the power to choose to have a positive mindset.  Here are a few tips that can help you be more positive.

  • Choose To Think Positively

God gave us the freedom and power of choice.  No matter what the situation may be…
