A New Way To Measure Success This Year

January 5, 2014

One of my favorite and most helpful authors is Dr. Robert Anthony. His advice on how to utilize the power of the mind has been a great help to me and many others in bringing life to a higher level.

I am on Dr. Anthony’s mailing list, and I regularly receive gems of information from him. This is one of the best yet, and I wanted to share it with you. Here’s to your success : )

Hi Joe,

I wanted to take a moment to say Happy New Year to you and yours…

Are ready for a great New Year?

To help you get off to a running start I would like you to consider changing
your perception of WHAT SUCCESS MEANS TO YOU!

As I mature and have a better understanding of how things work, I have
come to understand that HOW WE MEASURE SUCCESS will determine our
happiness, or lack of it.

We tend to MEASURE SUCCESS in relation to achieving our goals.  In other
words, we set a goal and if we achieve it, we are happy and satisfied.  If we
don’t, we feel like a failure.  This creates anxiety, fear and sometimes even depression.

You will never be happy or satisfied if you keep focusing on what you DON’T HAVE,
or what you have NOT ACHIEVED.

Instead, consider this…

The way to MEASURE SUCCESS, and still be happy and satisfied, is to look at
WHERE YOU HAVE COME FROM.

In other words, LOOK BACK and notice how you have IMPROVED in any area of your
life – even if it is a VERY SMALL improvement.

If you LOOK BACK and celebrate your INCREMENTAL IMPROVEMENTS, the next
steps become so much easier, because you are happy and satisfied right now.

So, if you did not achieve everything you wanted last year, when you finish reading this,
take a look at the INCREMENTAL IMPROVEMENTS you have made and give yourself
a pat on the back. Make a short list and then give yourself some credit instead of focusing
on what went wrong or did not happen.

Seriously. I mean it.  MAKE THAT LIST. I’m watching you!

Start this New Year with the feeling that you have already started to make some incremental
improvements and that you are ready for more.  NEVER, I repeat NEVER, judge yourself.
Give yourself credit for what you have accomplished – no matter how small those accomplishments
may seem.

This will get you off to great start this year because you will START OFF with a sense of
ACCOMPLISHMENT instead of a sense of failure – which is never useful.  If you build on your
incremental accomplishments you can do EVEN BETTER this year than you did last year.

Before I sign off I want to share a quote of mine with you…

“Any dream that can pass through one’s screen of logic into the Subconscious and is earnestly
desired, can be obtained”.
– Dr. Robert Anthony

Once you give up all the “logical reasons” why something cannot work for you and allow your
new dream or goal to enter your Subconscious,  it’s an idea whose time has come.  If you truly
desire it and your Subconscious agrees to it – it’s yours!

Cheers For a Great New Year,

Dr. Robert Anthony

Smile!…We’re Leaving Here With A Victory

November 3, 2013

I had the opportunity to watch one of the biggest college football games of the year a few weeks back. It was between Florida State and Clemson. The game was very important because it would most likely determine the conference champion. The game also had national championship implications as both were undefeated and ranked in the top 5.

The scene was unbelievable. It’s one of the big reasons I watch sports in the first place. A small town in South Carolina is captivated by this event. 90,000 fans create an incredibly high decibel level and wave of excitement that even a non sports fan could easily get caught up in.

One highlight of this event was ABC TV’s pregame show. They did a great job of taking us around the city and stadium to enhance the excitement. The part that most caught my attention was the pregame speech in the Florida State locker room. It wasn’t by the coach or veteran players of the team. It was from a freshman quarterback.

Typically in college football, the freshman quarterback does not have much of a say. However, this one was different. Typically, freshman quarterbacks are intimidated going into a hostile environment where most of the 90,000 screaming fans are cheering against you. Again, this one was different.

The part of his inspirational speech that most caught my attention was when he said…”Smile, boys. We’re leaving here with a victory”. I was amazed. I loved the confidence and wanted to see him do well even though I was more excited for the home team. What was the result? The game wasn’t even close. This confident freshman quarterback and his team destroyed the home team and quickly caused the decibel level to nosedive as Florida State won by almost 40 points. He never wavered at all. He demonstrated the same confidence on the field as he did in the locker room.

I was mesmerized by this speech and the results because it follows everything I’ve been taught in the past few years about success. This quarterback already saw the victory in his mind. He had extreme faith that it would happen. He still did his part and worked hard and smart in practice all week. He led his team in the speech by having them already smile and savor the victory that hadn’t even arrived yet. However, it did arrive within 3 hours of stepping on the field.

Do you want to win your big games in life? I recommend you follow this same advice. Have unwavering faith that not only can you win, but you WILL win. Visualize the victorious results in your mind. As you focus on the victory, take whatever action you can to prepare and make it happen. Also, act is if the victory is already yours. You already have it. It’s just a matter of stepping on the field with continued confidence and going to get it.

If you follow these guidelines you will not only win the big games of your life, but you will become a champion. Enjoy the blessings : )

How To Change Negative Circumstances

August 9, 2013

Do you have negative circumstances in your life? Unfortunately, we all do to some extent. Even us positive, optimistic people have obstacles we must deal with. God even says in the Bible that all humans will encounter these difficult situations at some time.

One pertinent question is… how do we deal with these negative situations? You may also ask… Is there a way we can avoid them? How can we turn them into a positive? All of these are excellent questions, and I will address each one in this article.

Before I answer these questions, I will say that too many people try to handle these negative situations externally. Either they blame something or someone else, or they try to find solutions by controlling the people or situations that caused the difficulty in the first place. They are trying to solve the problem from the outside. This is NOT the correct way to turn a negative situation around.

The best way to change negative circumstances is to focus on the inside. You may be able to control the situation in some way. However, you have full control of your own thoughts. And it’s using this control wisely that changes the situation most quickly and effectively. It’s a fact, that you are what you think. When you think negatively about a person or a situation, you are only allowing more negativity to enter the picture. However, when you think positively, even about a negative situation, you are setting the process in motion to change the situation quickly.

I’m sure you are familiar with the theory of displacement. For example, if you have a glass of muddy water, how do you change it so there is clear water in the glass? You cannot just dump the water out because much of the dirt will still remain. Instead, you need to run a constant stream of clean water through the glass. Eventually, the clean water replaces the muddy water until all of the dirt is cleaned out, and the water is clean. I have read in several books how the same is true for our thoughts. It is very difficult to just dump the negative thoughts out of our minds. This is because much of the lodged into our subconscious mind. In order to be removed, the positive thoughts need to clean out the negative ones. This only happens with a steady stream of healthy, positive thoughts.

What are some ways to help displace negative thoughts with positive ones to help change the negative situation? I will mention those that have been suggested to me and have worked wonders in helping me succeed…
Prayer – If you only practiced prayer to change a negative siutation, it would be good enough. God is in control of everything. Asking Him to solve your negative situation is like someone asking you to remove a piece of dust from a table. The Bible says that God is waiting for you to ask for His help and blessing, and He is ready and willing to provide for His children. Prayer is also effective, because it provides peace and a sense of power to you. To know completely that the negative situation is in God’s hands and control is empowering, and it helps us move on with the poise and confidence we need to do our part.

Visualization – Earlier I mentioned displacing negative thoughts from the subconscious mind. One of the most effective ways to do this is by visualization. This is because the subconscious cannot tell the difference between a real or imagined event. When you visualize a situation in the ideal, as you want it to be, your mind takes a hold of it, and you begin to think and act according to the picture that you hold. Knowing this, take time whenever you can through the day, and visualize the situations in your life as you want them to be, and as you think they should be. Hold this picture in your mind as often as possible. Experience it with all five senses in as much detail as you can. Ultimately, you start becoming that picture. Your actions work together with your new-found faith. This not only results in finding solutions, but allows you to a act in a confident, positive manner that effects all aspects of your life in an unbelievable way.

Positive Emotion – This step goes hand in hand with the previous ones.Even a negative situation can be changed if you demonstrate love, joy, peace, and all of the other fruits of the Spirit. Keep your emotions high, and you will magnetically attract the positive outcomes you are seeking. You will also be a positive light for others, and will make negative situations difficult to occur in the first place.

Take Inspired Action – I touched upon this already, but when your faith is strong, your thoughts are confident and positive, and your emotions are high, your actions automatically follow in the same manner. Just be sure to take those actions whenever you see the opportunity. Also, you’ve heard that the best defense is a great offense? When you practice these steps above, you are doing all you can do to prevent negative situations from happening. In fact, you are causing the opposite effects. You are instead setting yourself for blessings and miracles.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, negative situations cannot be completely avoided. The sooner they are dealt with, the sooner they disappear. The best way to deal with them is to avoid fighting them, and instead by changing your thinking to alter the situation. When you follow the steps above, you will be able to quickly resolve negative situations in your life, and create many more positive ones. Enjoy the blessings!

Which Is The Best State?

June 30, 2013

What state do you live in? Hopefully whatever state it is, you would say it’s the best. I know that I strive to live in the best state on a regular basis.

Wait a minute, you might say. How can you strive to live in the best state? I understand. However, I’m not going where you think I may be going with this. Here’s the state I’m talking about. It’s the state of….mind. As in always striving for the best state of mind.

I am being reminded a great deal lately how state of mind affects quality of life. When you are regularly in the best state of mind, your quality of life increases dramatically.

I will add one important piece of the puzzle. Did you know that what you desire is also a state of mind? For example, happy people are regularly in that joyful state of mind. Wealthy people have a wealth mindset. Fit people have a healthy mindset.

Here lies one of the great keys to success and achieving your goals. The key is to put yourself in that state of mind, and maintain it. For example, if you are seeking to lose weight and become more healthy, put yourself in that state of mind. Envision yourself at the weight you want to be. Put and keep yourself in a healthy state of mind. Act as a fit, healthy person would. What happens then is you subconsciously develop the habits that fit people do. As you think accordingly, you begin to automatically act accordingly. That’s when the results begin to show.

It’s the same with anything else in life. If you are seeking greater wealth, develop a wealth mindset. Visualize yourself with money and enjoying the benefits of it. Dress the part, and enjoy the new-found confidence you would have if the extra money was actually in your pocket. Once again, it eventually becomes part of your subconscious thinking, and you begin to act accordingly, being drawn to the money you are seeking.

I can go on with different examples. If you want happiness, smile, be happy and think happy thoughts. If you want more friends, be a good friend yourself. If you are seeking greater freedom, be the person you would be if you actually had it. It’s all about being what you want. When you are in the best state of mind, you don’t have to worry about what action to take. You just do it, taking inspired action towards the attainment of our desire.

Now that you have this information, I ask again…which is the best state?  I think you can answer that it’s the best state of mind that will bring you to your desire. Now if you will excuse me, I have some things to take care of here in the state of New York. Have an excellent day : )

A Successful Key To Beating The Obstacles

June 13, 2013

Have you ever completed an obstacle course? I always found them fun, yet frustrating at the same time. I had to go around or through several obstacles in order to reach the finish line. I like the challenge of it, though sometimes it seemed a bit long and drawn out. I began to wonder if I would ever make it to the end : )

Isn’t that how we often consider obstacles in life? There are some challenges we find interesting, and we enjoy the opportunities they present. In other cases, we dread obstacles because they keep us from reaching the finish line of our dreams and goals. In some cases, we get so frustrated that we give up before we even come close to reaching those goals.

Many will ask…how can we avoid allowing these obstacles to prevent us from reaching our goals? I found a powerful quote today that I believe holds the key…”obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal” – Joseph Cossman. The key is to keep your eyes fixed firmly on the goal. When you do this, nothing or no one will be able to stop you from getting where you want to go.

There are many examples of people who refused to let obstacles get in the way. I am a sports lover, and often see athletes that are so determined to win that they play at a level even higher than their normal greatness. You can often see that look in their eyes, and you know nothing or no one is getting in their way of success.

You too will find success if you simply keep focused on the goal. If you do, you won’t even know the obstacles in front of you exist. Even if they linger, you will have little difficulty conquering them.

Many people don’t accomplish their goals because the obstacles they face create doubt and fear. When you remain completely focused on the goal, you don’t leave room for doubt and fear to creep in. Instead, you only leave room for faith and success.

Keep your eyes fixed on the goal, and refuse to take no for an answer. You will see yourself accomplishing more and more success by following this simple formula. Enjoy the blessings : )

An Alternate Definition Of Success

June 8, 2013

“Success is a state of mind. If you want success, start thinking of yourself as a success” – Joyce Brothers.

I love this quote. I have realized that, in many ways, this is exactly what success is…it’s simply a state of mind. Think of the things that you are good at. Isn’t it true that one of the main reasons you are good at it is because you think you are? Actually, it’s because you KNOW you are. You KNOW you will succeed.

If you are seeking success in other areas of life, I challenge you to convince yourself of success. How can you do this?

  • Know that the Spirit of all success lives within you. You have a spirit of unlimited power that makes up your very being. Meditate on it, and be that power.
  • Success affirmations. Repeat positive, powerful statements to yourself on a regular basis throughout the day. Statements like, “I am success (see the first bullet); I succeed in all I do; I am confident that I will succeed; or whatever statements will lead you to the success you desire.
  • Visualize success. Take times during the day to pause from the busy pace and envision yourself experiencing and enjoying the success you crave. Then feel the positive emotions you would feel as if you were actually experiencing the success at that moment.

These are some basic ways to gear your mindset towards success. Remember, success is a state of mind, and you will only be as successful as you allow yourself to be.

Why not set your level of success as high as you can? See yourself getting there and reaping the benefits of your great success. Maintain that successful state of mind, and you will know no other way. Enjoy the blessings : )

Traits That Can Make You A Winner

June 3, 2013

The other night I had the wonderful opportunity to watch my 8th grade daughter receive two academic awards. It was certainly one of those proud Dad moments : ) It was a beautiful ceremony as many other students in the school received awards as well.

The best part about the entire ceremony, especially for the bigger awards, was how the teacher wrote a summary about the accomplishments of each student, and why they were presented the award. As the evening wore on, the same theme seemed to present itself with each student being described. There was a pattern of characteristics that each student seemed to possess. Those characteristics are:

1. Passion
2. Joy
3. Dedication
4. Willingness to assist others

Every one of the students had at least one of these traits, if not all of them. The teachers talked of how the students entered the room with a smile on their face, never gave up, did whatever they were asked to do without complaint, and often helped other students without even being asked to do so. It’s no wonder they earned these awards.

I thought as this ceremony went on, that if a 14 year old is able to figure out that this formula for success, why can’t many adults? I thought of situations in my own life. When I succeed, it is because I demonstrate these traits. When I fail, it’s because I often lack the these qualities.

I present this info and challenge to you, my valued reader. If success is far from you or things aren’t going your way, take a closer look at these 4 desireable traits, and focus on each one of them. Then take the steps necessary to make success happen. When you are joyful, dedicated, passionate, and willing to help others reach their success, there is no goal you cannot accomplish. Perhaps I will see you on stage very soon. Enjoy the blessings : )

How To Avoid Success

May 31, 2013

Ok hockey fans, today’s quote is from the best of all time, Wayne Gretzky. He once said “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”.

How true is this? I know as a hockey fan, my biggest pet peeve is when players don’t shoot the puck. Instead, they try to be too fancy or make too many passes. I always say it…you can’t score if you don’t shoot.

I apply this to life in general. Opportunities to shine and succeed are presented to you more than you realize. However, as Gretzky says, you won’t make it if you don’t take the shot. Too many times, people either wait for the perfect situation, pass the opportunity to someone else, or simply sit back and wait. I know it happens, because in the past, I’ve passed up opportunities in all three ways I just mentioned.

My title is a bit ironic, but you can easily avoid and pass up success if you don’t take the shot. To turn it to a positive, I will challenge you to keep your mind focused on success, and take as many shots as you need in order to score the goal. Unfortunately, you don’t score every time you shoot, but your chances at success increase dramatically the more shots you take.

Please don’t avoid success today or any day. When the opportunity presents itself, don’t pass up the shot. Take it yourself (and with assists from others) all the way to the goal. If you persist, you will surely score! Enjoy the blessings : )
