A Simple Way to Remove Negative Emotions

I write often about negative emotions and the importance of not letting them hold you back from accomplishing your goals and dreams. I will admit that this is often easier said than done. It is natural that we all experience negative emotions. After all, we are human beings.

Many people are aware of the importance of releasing those negative feelings. The problem is that many don’t know how to do it. After doing some quality reading this week, I found a consistent theme that can be an instant help in removing those nagging negatives from your mind.

Are you ready for this quick and helpful fix? It’s as simple as focusing on the present moment. I’ve learned so much about present moment living, and I’ve shared much of that knowledge in this space. As the days go by, God is making it ever more clear that living in the present moment is of the utmost importance and benefit.

I say it often and will share it again. When you live in the present, you don’t allow the mistakes of the past to get you down and hold you back. And you don’t let worries of the future prevent you from moving ahead. It is incredibly empowering because you have absolute full control. This is your moment and you can use it IN WHATEVER WAY YOU CHOOSE. How empowering is that?

Knowing this, you have a quick and easy way to remove negative thoughts. After all, negative thoughts are most often caused by past failures or doubts and worries about the future. When you remove your focus from those time frames and put it solely on the present, you have the power of decision to allow positive, solutions-based thoughts to enter your mind instead. Then you can take positive, focused action on those thoughts. This usually results in much greater productivity, which only produces more confidence and positivity, ultimately carrying you where you want to go.

The next time you find negative thoughts invading your mind, first stop, acknowledge them, and catch them. Realize they are only thoughts and they have no power over you. Then focus on the moment. Think of all the good around you at this moment. Think of all of the reasons to be happy and thankful at that moment. It’s amazing how quickly this can change your emotional state. In this greater positive frame of living, remain focused on the moment and consider what you can do joyfully in this moment to bring yourself closer to where you want to be.

Our minds wander often and it is easy to get taken away from the present moment. However, the more you can make it a habit to reel yourself in and remain focused on the present, the more power and positivity you bring into your life. I have found that with practice, it is entirely possible, and I am beginning to experience these benefits on a regular basis.

Controlling Your Thoughts

I have learned a great deal over the past few years that the quality of your life depends first on the quality of your thoughts. I share about it often at this blog. However, sometimes controlling your thoughts can be very difficult. They can be like a runaway train and you may find it difficult to control your thoughts and keep them positive.

Even though I have learned to become master of my own thoughts, I still sometimes go through times where I realize that I’ve allowed some unhealthy thoughts to enter. I try to catch this as quickly as possible because I know that I need to think positively in order to be productive.

One excellent way to target your mind to positive thinking is a Bible quote from Philippians. Whenever I struggle to maintain positive thoughts I often go back to this verse. I was reminded of it again recently. Philippians 4:8 says… Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.

It is a great reminder about what to think about, especially if you are having difficulty keeping your mind focused on positive things. The art of positive thinking goes well beyond this, as in affirmations, visualization, and the like. However, this is the most excellent rule of thumb and “back to the basics” method of positive thinking that I believe there is. Simply thinking about beautiful things, blessings to be thankful for, or any good thing in your life will bring you back to thinking positively and impact your day positively as well.

I recommend taking at least a few minutes several times during the day to reflect on admirable, praiseworthy things, and people around you. You will notice the immediate impact of your attitude. This then affects everything else to relationships, the flow of your day, or whatever in a very positive way. Then you will receive even more things to reflect on and be thankful for. God and Negativity

Is there anything you can’t do? You don’t have to answer this question because I already know the answer. I believe you know my answer as well.

I don’t have a problem admitting that there are many things I can’t do. The problem is when I transfer this mindset to God’s ability. Due to the fact that I am incapable with many things, I still sometimes keep my mind in the mentality of limitation, forgetting that our God has NO LIMITS!!

I was reminded again the other day…in God’s eyes there is no such thing as lack. Limitation and lack are only illusions we place in our own minds. Negative outcomes are caused because instead of focusing on God’s provision, we focus on the negative ideas of our own minds.

The good news is we have full control of this. I challenge myself and you my reader to focus on what God can do. Instead of setting limits, focusing on lack, and dwelling on negative possibilities, let us seek God, summon His unlimited power, and dwell on the fact that He is readily willing to provide abundantly more than we seek or ask. Key Differences Between Negative and Positive Thinking

I have always had a good understanding of the difference between negative and positive thinking. This is nothing to brag about since almost everyone on this earth can do the same.

In knowing this difference, I have been shown that it is a matter of focus. We all know what positive and negative thinking are, but we often get caught up on letting circumstances control us, and when we face obstacles, our thoughts tend to dwell on the negative.

One of my favorite Bible verses is Philippians 4:8. It says to think about things that are true, noble, right, pure, and lovely. What does that mean exactly? I am reading an excellent book by Henry Thomas Hamblin called, “Dynamic Thought”. In one section, the author breaks down examples of positive and negative thinking. Since we’re talking about focusing our thoughts, I will share this list with you…

Thoughts are positive if they dwell upon the following: Success, achievement, accomplishment, overcoming, conquering, mastering, prosperity, power, courage, calmness, dignity, perseverance, purposefulness, patience, wisdom, faithfulness, confidence, faith, hope, cheerfulness, love, joy, peace, health and happiness.

Thoughts are negative if they dwell upon the following: Failure, difficulty, bad luck, hard lines, I can’t, fear, dread, grief, worry, care, anxiety, loss, fate unfaithfulness, grievances, criticizing others, imputing bad motives to others, hate, envy, covetousness, brooding, lust, impurity immorality, selfishness, sensuality, misery, unhappiness, disease, ill-health and death.

I can’t explain it any better than that. The author goes on to suggest that you focus on each of these positive words individually. Start with success. Wrap your mind around the idea of success and meditate on it for several minutes. Then visualize yourself succeeding. Do the same for each of the other words until they become an automatic part of your thinking. When it’s an automatic part of your thinking, it becomes an automatic part of your doing. That’s when great things begin to happen in your life. Enjoy the blessings 🙂

Why Should I Think Positive Thoughts?

The above question is an interesting and relevant one. If I provided all of the reasons why positive thinking is beneficial and necessary, I would use all of the space this website allows.

In addition to maintaining positive thoughts, action is also necessary if you want to accomplish your goals. I am realizing more and more that the action you take is in exact correlation to the thoughts we think. In other words, the formula is simple…the higher quality thoughts you think, the higher quality your actions will be.

I believe in keeping things simple on this site, and I believe you can’t get much more simple than that. It may seem overly simple, in fact. Yet how many times do we let the negative thoughts take over and wonder why we aren’t seeing results?

I challenge myself and my wonderful readers to focus within today. Maintain the highest quality thoughts you possibly can. Feel the highest corresponding emotions. Visualize the success you crave. Then determine what needs to be done and take the steps to do it. The more you focus on the positive thoughts, the more those steps will be giant and productive. The Power of Mind Nurturing

Are you looking to take yourself to a higher level? The above quote is yet another reminder that increasing the quality of your life begins with increasing the quality of your thoughts. It’s unbelievable what a simple concept this is. Yet why do so many fail to do it?

There are two reasons people struggle to maintain positive thoughts. One is that they allow the negatives to take precedence. Two is simply a matter of not taking the time to do it. Knowing that increasing the quality of your thoughts enhances the quality of your life, why would you not take the time to do it? It’s a question I finally got around to asking myself in recent years. I have realized that we need to spend quality time each day deliberately increasing the quality of our thoughts.

I recommend your remain focused on the opening quote. How high and how positive can you allow yourself to think? Realize that whatever level that is, God can not only take you to that level, but He will one up you. Ephesians 3:20 in the Bible says that God will provide immeasurably more than you can ever think or ask. So why not consistently imagine the most beautiful, ideal thoughts that you can possibly think of?

The key to a high quality, joyful life is to spend time nurturing the garden of your mind. Pull out any negative weeds, then plant and water seeds of positivity, love, and success. Eventually they will grow to heights above and beyond what you could have ever imagined. Enjoy the blessings 🙂


Negative Thoughts Are OK

I already know what you are thinking…what is this, opposite day? If you regularly read my posts you know I am a great promoter of the power of positive thinking. So what’s this all about?

It was 6 years ago that I truly began to discover the power and benefits of thinking positive thoughts, and imagining positive situations. Plain and simple, it has changed my life. However, I am still seeking to grow more and take my life to an even higher level. One thing that has held me back is negative thinking.

Are you really confused now? I have shared many thoughts about positive thinking on this blog. Negative thoughts have held me back. And they’re OK?

In my personal growth journey I have learned so much, and the better news is that I continue to learn more excellent and helpful ideas. During the past few months I have learned that it is OK to have negative thoughts. Please allow to me to share some reasons why:

  • It proves that you are normal – It’s a fact that since the beginning of time, we have been wired to think negatively. Human beings are prone to think negatively, so you can feel assured that you are a normal human being if these thoughts enter your mind.
  • They are unavoidable – God Himself said that even the best of us will experience trials and difficult situations. It’s impossible not to be affected when these situations occur. It’s a fact that even for the most positive thinkers, negative thoughts will enter your mind.

After sharing this information, I will share the good news. It’s that you still have full control. What I mean is this. Negative thoughts will still enter your mind. It’s at this point that you have two choices. One is to let them control you, hang on to them, and allow them to hold you back. However, there are two better options. One is to acknowledge the thought and then simply dismiss it. The other is to use it as a motivation. You can acknowledge the negative thought, then immediately turn it into a positive one, or better yet a prayer to receive the positive.

The main idea I am trying to communicate here is that negative thoughts are not the problem. It’s how we handle them. As mentioned, it’s a problem when we latch on to them and let them control us. For me, another issue is that I tried to fight them and do all I could to avoid them. I began to feel guilty when negative thoughts entered my mind. However, this only enabled me to dwell on them more and brought negative feelings. This combination only gave me more of what I didn’t want. Instead, I have learned that if I fight the negative feelings, I am going against the flow of my own human nature. It’s a battle I can never win. Instead, I follow the advice of those who have taught me to simply allow the negative feelings to exist, let them know that they have no control over me, and use them as a motivator to bring positive thoughts and situations.

If you have been fighting negative thoughts, you can end the battle right now. Let them in, but instead of letting them take over, simply laugh them off and use them to focus on the positive. If your experience is like mine, you will not only feel a great peace, but an even greater feeling of empowerment and ability to take the necessary steps towards the completion of your goal. Why I’m rooting for the Seattle Seahawks and why their new game strategy has the power to change the whole world

I am also rooting for the Seahawks for the reasons mentioned in this article. I have lost almost all interest in the NFL because the intolerable character that most players have is being tolerated. The only team I have put aside time to watch is the Seahawks because of the positive enthsusiasm of their fans. The leaders of this team are indeed doing things the right way, and it would be great to see them and their fans rewarded with the ultimate prize.

But I just found out (okay, so I’m probably late to the party) that the Seattle Seahawks meditate, that their coach Pete Carroll believes his players should quiet their mind and focus on the now moment and that their star quarterback regularly gets out a yoga mat.

Is this frickin’ awesome or what?

I mean this is a sport known for brutal behavior, where guys like Bear Bryant were ballyhooed for refusing to give water breaks, where coaches throw balls at player’s heads.

I Have PMS… And It’s a Good Thing

I have a confession…My name is Joe, and I have PMS. Yes, Joe is a guy’s name, and I am a guy. I can understand what you’re thinking. You’re a guy so how could you…? What do you mean? Huh?

Please allow me to explain what I mean, and why it’s a good thing. I’m not talking about THAT PMS. What I have is Positive Mental State. It’s a good thing because the more positive my mental state is, the more I open myself for blessings, and the more of a blessing I am for other people.

Sorry ladies, I don’t mean to downplay the PMS you regularly experience. I would never do that since I can never understand what you go through. I only see what it does for the three females that deal with it every month in my house. However, this message is for everyone. The more positive mental state you put yourself in, the more you reap positive benefits.

I once read a quote from Wayne Dyer that said when you are in a positive mental state, you not only affect your own life, but you can potentially affect hundreds or even thousands of other lives in a positive way. I can’t pinpoint the truth of this statement with exact statistics. However, what if it’s true? The possibility alone is enough to make me want to keep myself in PMS as much as possible.

Another great mystery I’ve learned is this…we are all connected in this world. God’s Spirit is within every one of us. We are all part of the One Spirit of all. Therefore, wouldn’t it make sense that if a part of the whole is increasing in positivity and greatness, that it would affect the other parts? When you enhance the part of the Spirit that is you, you ultimately enhance the whole since you are one with it. That positively affects the other parts. That’s why I take Mr. Dyer’s statement as completely true.

Once again I will say that I cannot take away the negative effects of the physical PMS. However, I can promote the positive ones. Keep yourself in a positive mental state. You will reap the benefits in your own life, and will create a ripple effect of blessings for many others. Enjoy : )
