A Simple Way to Allow God to Do His Thing

February 16, 2017

I am lucky enough to have many blessings in my life. I am very thankful for the wonderful things God has given me. However, I believe I would receive a lot more from God if I simply stayed out of His way and let Him do His work in my life. God is limitless, yet I often put my own finite body and plans in the way of His, which are much more powerful and prosperous than my own.

I am currently reading “A Course in Miracles”. It is a somewhat complicated, yet thorough course that teaches what I am mentioning here. That is, relying on the Holy Spirit as a guide instead of my own ego-based, very limited wisdom. As long (it is made to take a year to get through) and sometimes difficult as the course is, there are plenty of small gems to be found and immediately applied. I share one of them today, which comes from chapter 18 part 3…

“I who am host to God am worthy of him. He who established His dwelling place in me created it as he would have it be. It is not needful that I make it ready for him, but only that I do not interfere with his plan to restore to me my own awareness of my readiness, which is eternal. I need add nothing to his plan. But to receive it, I must be willing not to substitute my own in place of it. ”

In plain English, this is saying that God who lives in you, is a part of you, and never leaves you is willing and waiting to work on your behalf. If you don’t see things happening, you may want to reflect on whether you are indeed in His way and not allowing Him to do His great work in your life. How can you hinder God? As the quote says, we can do that simply by trying to do it all ourselves and trying to add our own wisdom and work to a divine plan of blessing He already has for us.

I sometimes feel guilty and shameful when I think of this. How can I dare try to out-do God in my own limited wisdom? Why would I even think about getting in His way and not let the all-powerful God work on my behalf? The good news is that the minute we ask for forgiveness for something like this, we are instantly forgiven. At this point the key is then to yield, let God do His work, and watch the blessings begin to pour into our lives.

For me, and hopefully you, this is great news! You don’t have to do it all. In fact, the only thing you need to do is to be sensitive to His presence, pray and ask Him for blessings, and then wait for two things. One is to allow him to guide your steps and determine what action you need to take. Once you do that, your next task is to simply step back and allow Him to work. When you do that, your blessing will manifest at the proper time.

This makes it all sound very easy, and it is! The hardest part for most of us is giving up the temptation to run ahead of God and make things happen in our own power. I recommend the advice above and believe that you are a worthy dwelling of God and His spirit. Know He wants to work on your behalf, and let Him do it. Even though I still go too fast at times and create unnecessary stress, I know first-hand that when I slow down, stop striving, and allow God to work in my life, that’s when miracles happen. And they will happen for you too. Enjoy the blessings 🙂

How to Live in the Kingdom of God Now

December 1, 2016

Is it possible to enjoy the benefits of God’s kingdom right this second? Don’t we have to wait til we get to heaven to truly experience God’s kingdom?

I can only imagine what heaven will be like. I believe it will be far greater than anything I could possibly imagine. However, who says I have to wait until I die to experience God’s kingdom?

The truth is, the kingdom of God can be experienced by me and anyone else right here, right now. How do I know? For the Bible tells me so. Luke 17:21 says that the kingdom of God (some translations even call it the kingdom of heaven) is within you. Other translations say that the kingdom of God is in our midst. Either way, this tells me one thing…. The kingdom of heaven is part of me and I am part of it. It is all around me and it is all around you. Whenever you are consciously aware of it, you can experience the kingdom of heaven NOW!

Another popular Bible verse advises to seek first the kingdom of God and all else will be given to you. (Matt 6:33). Knowing that the kingdom of God is within you and in your midst, you are in essence seeking what you already have. A great thing is that all you can ever want to be or have is a part of this great kingdom of God. So when you seek the kingdom first, it’s no wonder that all else is added to you!

So how do you experience the kingdom of God on a regular basis? Simply be consciously aware of it. Remind yourself constantly that you and the kingdom are one. Remember, it is within you and all around you. Mentally “seek first the kingdom” as often as possible during the day. As you do so, your faith, love and joy automatically increase! This is because they and all other positive emotions are fruits of the wonderful kingdom of heaven that, as you are constantly aware of them, automatically manifest as you seek the kingdom first. Of course then, you begin to experience miracles on a regular basis.

Remember, the kingdom of God is something that can be experienced any time. Seek it first, and all will be added unto you. Enjoy the blessings 🙂

Can We Offend God?…It’s Not How You Think

August 4, 2016

Can we actually offend God? After all, as human beings, we do some evil things on a regular basis. Even good people, with good intentions fall short, make mistakes, and do things that our God would be disappointed with.

So the question again…can we offend God? In reality, I have learned that God is a forgiving God. I believe that if we ask for forgiveness, we are forgiven as simply as that. I believe He may be disappointed in our choices sometimes, but I’m not so sure He is offended.

At this point, I’ll put the concept on human terms. As mentioned, I don’t believe we can offend God. However, if we could, what do I think would offend Him the most? I don’t think it would be something bad we do or an action we should take and don’t. As I reflected on this, I firmly believe what would offend God the most, is not seeking His assistance. Think about it. He is God. He can do all things. He wants to do it all for us and bless us in ways we can’t even imagine. Yet we often don’t ask. We try to figure things out on our own, in our own flawed ways. We have the supreme power of the universe at our side at all times, someone who can’t wait to express that power on our behalf. Yet we don’t even consider asking Him most times.

I think about this in my own life. I am fortunate that I have a great relationship with my earthly father. For the most part, I believe I have made him proud. However, the times I have disappointed him most, are the times he was readily available to help, but I didn’t ask, and fell on my face as a result. He was ready and willing to help, but I didn’t ask and give him the chance to bless me. He still loved me of course, but I’m sure he was quite disappointed.

So what’s the solution for all this? Pour your heart out to God and ask Him to help. It’s as simple as that for whatever you need. His is there. He will answer. He will provide. If it’s not the way you asked for, it can only be better.

Again, I really don’t think we can offend God. However, why even cause the slightest disappointment because you did not ask for or rely on His power. I will say once again… GOD WANTS YOU TO ASK; GOD WANTS TO BLESS YOU BEYOND YOUR WILDEST DREAMS! Allow Him to do so and watch what happens. Enjoy the blessings 🙂

3 Ways You Can Please God Today

January 10, 2016

I don’t know about you, but nothing pleases me more that when I know I’ve pleased my God. To be honest, He is always pleased with us, whether we know it or not. He is pleased with us even during our darkest moments. He loves us more than we’ll ever know.

Even though God will always love you abundantly and be pleased with His wonderful creation, there are actions you can take to get God’s attention and put an even bigger smile on His face. I take these from Psalm 9:

  1. Praise Him with all your heart
  2. Tell of the marvelous things He has done
  3. Be filled with joy because of Him

In addition to bringing joy to God, taking these 3 actions regularly will add blessing to your life. I have learned often enough, that when I am thankful for the things I have in life, I am given more things to be thankful for. Likewise when I live with a joyful heart, I am provided more reasons to be joyful.

One of the reasons I share information on this blog is because I want to share the great things God has shown me and the wonderful things he has done for me. My hope is to inspire people facing similar situations and feelings that if God brought me through it, He can do the same for them. He can do the same for you.

Joy and gratitude are contagious. Not only are our lives blessed when we practice them, but other people around us are blessed as well. You can not only be a blessing to God, but to many others by simply practicing these three attitudes. So be thankful, joyful, and quick to share the many ways God has blessed you. It WILL make a difference. Enjoy the blessings 🙂

Fixing Your Eyes on God

January 6, 2016

Recently, a pastor at another church spoke at a breakfast I attended. I was very interested in hearing what he had to say for two reasons. One, because I know people who attend his church and have very positive things to say about his messages. Second, he is a former goalie that played in the National Hockey League in the mid to late 80s. Hockey has been one of my favorite sports for almost 40 years, so the opportunity to meet and listen to this man was one I looked very much forward to.

As expected, his message was excellent. The most interesting and memorable part was when he talked about a time where he had great success the season before. As a result, he was awarded a lucrative contract. Expectations were highest for him at the start of the new season. However, for some reason, he couldn’t stop the puck anymore. In fact he said he couldn’t have stopped a beach ball. With all of these expectations, his confidence was lost, and he was playing worse than his pre-professional days. Finally, the captain of his team took him to dinner and described what he saw as the problem. He said that when the goalie was playing his best, it was because he never took his eyes off the puck. In fact, some teammates even laughed at how, when the referee was holding the puck and tossing it up and down, the goalie’s head was going up and down with the puck. That’s how focused he was! Sure enough, the next time he played, he kept his focus squarely on the puck and nothing else. As a result, the success he had had returned, and he helped take his team to a very high level.

Before I share my point, I will share one more story. One of my favorite movies of all time is Forrest Gump. I watched this movie again recently. I had forgotten that Forrest was a very successful ping pong player. It was simply because he was instructed to keep his eye on the ball and focus on nothing else. He followed the advice, and won international tournaments and received major endorsements as a result. All of this was because he did not take his eye off the ball at any time.

Where does this lead to my point? The heart of the pastor’s message with his hockey story was that our focus on God needs to be just like the professional goalie. The Bible even tells us to keep our eyes fixed on God to be the most we can be in this life. When we keep our eyes locked on God like the hockey puck or ping pong ball, instead of the distracting circumstances around us, that is when we receive our greatest blessings and successes in life. That is how we are a blessing to others. That is how we make the most out of the will and destiny that God has for us.

Sometimes it is not easy to avoid the distractions and obstacles. Especially now, hockey goalies have players trying to distract them mentally and physically, doing anything to prevent them from stopping the puck. It’s the same for us. I believe people on this earth and even the devil himself are trying to block our view and prevent us from focusing on God. These distractions may get some pucks past us. However, the more you keep focusing on God, keeping your eyes fixed on Him, the more successful you will be in avoiding the distractions, and leading you and those around you to victory.

So what is your choice today? For me, it’s to keep my eyes fixed on God and the greatness of His kingdom. If you make this choice, it won’t eliminate the negative situations. Some will hit you and hurt! However, it will lead you to the blessings God has intended for you. You will be victorious and experience the joy that was meant for you. After all, to use one more hockey term…that’s your goal! Enjoy the blessings 🙂

With God All Things Are Possible

August 31, 2015

With God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Do you believe this today? For many of you, it is easy to answer yes. However, I will ask again…do you really believe this? I ask because of my own response. I firmly believe that through God all things are possible. If you asked me this question I would say yes without hesitation. Yet, as much as my faith has grown in leaps and bounds in the past few years, my actions don’t always indicate my belief in this powerful concept.

I know that all things are possible with God. Yet why do I still hold back at times? Why do I still doubt? If you are asking yourself those same questions, you are not alone. However, if you want to experience the greatness that God has for you, it is time to start not only believing this verse, but living it.

A great wake up call for me was when I read a quote from someone (I cannot recall the source) that said we have two choices of who to believe…God or the devil. He said that when one doubts, they are in essence believing the devil’s lies over God’s truth. Of course, this shook me to the core. I didn’t want to be accused of siding with the devil, but I didn’t have to think about it long to realize I was doing that every time I doubted. When I doubted, I was completely disregarding this verse I said I believed. I knew I had to act quickly and start believing the Father of all possibility instead of the father of lies.

There are two main ways I started to bring my mind to focus on all possibility instead of doubt:

  1. Besides the above verse, I found as many verses as I could about faith and the promises of God. Here is an excellent list… 15 Verses on What The Bible Says About All Things Are Possible The more you focus on God and His wonderful promises, the more your faith increases, and the less you believe the devil’s lies.
  2. Affirmation and visualization – I often share about the power of repeating positive phrases and visualizing these situations in my mind. The more your subconscious mind hears these words, sees the beautiful pictures, and feels the powerful emotions, the more it is convinced of its truth.

I will ask again…do you believe that with God all things are possible? If you do, let it show in your actions as you move confidently and successfully through your day. If you don’t, follow the steps above and let its truth sink into your mind. Then the confident actions will occur automatically, and your faith will grow exponentially. Every desire and goal you can imagine is a true possibility. Just believe it, and watch it manifest before your eyes. Enjoy the blessings 🙂

Where Can I Find God?

January 20, 2015

One of the more powerful and comforting verses in the Bible is Matthew 6:33 which says to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (these things are your concerns and needs of life mentioned in the verses before).

I find a great peace in this, knowing that simply seeking God and His kingdom allows everything else to fall in line. I love the awesome possibility that the manifestation of your desires will follow your conscious effort to focus on God’s presence and kingdom.

It seems simple enough, but people will often ask the serious question…where do I find God? It’s a valid question, especially if you are new to idea of seeking God in the first place. Where can you find God? How can you find God? Each day, I get a greater grasp on the answer to this question. He is everywhere and a part of everything and everybody. He’s part of you and part of me. He created the trees you see in the park, and the beautiful sunset you admired the other night. His hands move the waves of the ocean. Even the snow that I am already sick of this winter is His beautiful creation.

As you can realize, it’s very easy to find God. No matter where you look or where you go He is there. Another great way to find Him is to ask for His presence, assistance, peace, or anything. The great thing is that when you actively seek God, He will reveal Himself to you and allow you to find Him.

Here’s one new part of this old equation I’ve recently discovered… I’m starting to see it as a main reason you receive everything else when you seek God. The idea that when you seek God, you are in essence seeking and finding everything else. It’s because God is in everything. God is the creator and essence of the extra money you are seeking. He is the creator and essence of the relationship you desire. He is all about perfect health, free of disease and stress, and full of love, joy, and confidence. He’s created both the dream and job of the dream job you are pursuing. The list goes on.

The bottom line is that when you seek God you will find Him. And you will also find everything else in the process. Enjoy the blessings.
