Light Your World With Power

October 23, 2012

Every once in a while I stop to think about some things in life we take for granted. After reading information about Thomas Edison recently, I thought about the light bulb. The light bulb is a special and symbolic object because it can literally add light to a dark place.

How does the light bulb work? The simple explanation is that is connected to an electrical source. Then the switch is turned on and it shines its light. The light bulb is one of man’s greatest inventions. However, as special of an object that the light bulb is, it can only work if it is connected to its power source (electricity). Without that, it cannot function.

After reflecting on this further, I realized the similarity in our lives. How can you be compared to a light bulb? It’s simple when you think about it. Just like the light bulb, you are a wonderful creation. You have so much light to offer in a dark world. In order to light your world you need two things. One is that you need to be connected to the source of God, your Creator. Then it’s up to you to “flip your switch”. That is to consciously be a beacon of the bright light that is within you.

If you are seeking to be a positive and powerful light to those around you, consciously focus on this concept. Be sure to keep this in perspective. It is not you providing the blessing. You are simply the instrument that is being used to do so. Without your power source you can do nothing. Stay connected to God through prayer and reflection. Keep your switch in the “on” position by maintaining positive thoughts and living in a state of joy and gratitude. When you do this consistently, you will be a light to those around you.

We live in a world where there is a great deal of darkness. However, you have the power to be a shining light. When you follow these simple steps, people will notice. They will look to you to be their light, and you will be blessed in many ways. It’s a simple idea, yet many people move through life too quickly to even take the time to flick their switch on or connect with their power source. How about you? Hopefully the light bulb has come on and you are ready to light your world and make a difference. Enjoy the blessings : )

How To Let Your Light Shine

August 16, 2012

This little light of mine. I’m gonna let it shine. This…oh, I’m sorry. I had this song stuck in my head and didn’t realize it was time to start writing. Most of us know this song somehow, either from our own church experience or someone else’s. An appropriate Bible verse that goes along with it is Matthew 5:14-17, which says…you are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it in a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men , that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven”

So let’s go back to our song, along with this verse. It tells us to let our light shine. However, it doesn’t tell us how to do it! Is there a way to let our light shine? I was reading the Life Application Bible, and they actually mention 6 ways we hide our light. Those are:

  1. Being quiet when we should speak.
  2. Going along with the crowd.
  3. Denying the light.
  4. Letting sin dim our light.
  5. Not sharing our light with others.
  6. Ignoring the needs of others.

Due to the fact that I like to focus on the positive, I turned these ideas around. Instead of discussing ways we hide our light, let’s instead talk about how we can shine our light:

  1. Share positive and encouraging words whenever possible.
  2. Express the parts of your personality that make you unique.
  3. Be willing to let God’s light shine in you.
  4. Do your best to do things right. Nobody’s perfect, but do your best to be your best.
  5. Look for opportunities to share the light with others.
  6. Serve others as much as possible and do what you can to meet their needs.

If you are seeking for ways to shine that little light of yours, I think this is a great way to do it. Not only will others be blessed, but you will notice a greater positive light shining on your own life as well.

Enjoy the blessings : )

A Generous Dose of Info To Help Receive What You Want

August 6, 2012

Is there a special formula that gives you a better chance to receive what you want? In one way, I would have to say no. There are many factors involved. However, if you are looking for a way to enhance your success, reach your goals, and receive the blessings you are looking for, I have something that can help you get there.

How do you get want you want? The answer is quite ironic and may surprise you….give it away! What? How can I give away something I don’t even have? I will say that in most cases, you already do have it. For example, some people are looking to be appreciated more. In that case, the best way to receive that appreciation is to show greater appreciation for others. Seeking more money? Be more willing to share what you already have. Many of us say we don’t have enough time. If that’s the case, give yours away. Spend time helping and serving other people, and watch how much time you will find that you really have. The same is true with the other examples. By appreciating others, you will find people appreciating you more. By sharing your money, you will find it coming to you from unexpected sources. It’s amazing how it works.

This information is well backed in the Bible. “A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed” Proverbs 11:25. “Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap” Luke 6:38. These are just some of the many verses that stress the importance and benefits of generosity.

A key concept is to avoid doing things for others simply because you want to be blessed yourself. Don’t go seeking the blessing. When you do for others, you will atomatically have it done for you. Besides, there is the verse in Matthew 25 where Jesus says, whatever you do for the least of these people you do for me. You are doing it for Him and His glory. You will be blessed as a result. In addition, think of how you feel when you give to someone else. Doesn’t it feel great? That great feeling will give you more positive energy, and you will feel like you can do more with your time. The desire to give to others simply becomes natural.

Today, think of what you can do for someone else. Think especially of what it is that you are seeking in your life. Then give as much as you can of it to someone else. You will see major blessings for them, and especially in your own life. I encourage you to make it happen. Please share your results : )

God Does Not Hold Back

January 11, 2012

I will start this article with one of the most famous Bible verses in the entire Book…For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

I share about a message I’ve heard in several places lately. Do you think God is trying to tell me something? The messsage is this…if God would not hold back from giving His only son for us, why would He hold back anything else? I’ve reflected on this a great deal in the past few days. God loves us so much that it goes far above anything we can imagine. The more we focus on this love the more empowered we are.

I ask the question again…If God did not hold back His only son from us why would He hold anything else back? I’ll add this too. Matthew 7:7 says ask and you shall receive. So why are so many not asking?

I believe it’s time to take Him at His word. God has more great things in store for us than we can even ask or imagine. Ask for blessings according to His will for your life and then expect them. Consciously remain aware of His love and share it with others. It’s a simple equation. When we pray, believe, dwell on His love for us, and share it with others, we live a successful life full of blessings. God will not hold back!!

The 15 Minute Challenge

December 11, 2011

I recently posted a time management article about breaking the day down to 15 minute increments to help manage the day more effectively and become more productive. It has been very helpful to me.

I recently read about another similar challenge that I wanted to share. It was from a minister who, in order to keep in close contact with God, made it a challenge to pray for one second out of every minute. As I read this, I thought it was a good challenge. However, it is hard enough for me to keep track of 15 minutes, never mind 1. When I thought of this further, I realized it is only one minute of every hour. I thought, “that’s it?” Only one minute every hour? This is easy to manage, but I thought I could do even better than that.

As presented in my recent post, it is very effective to break the day down to 15 minute chunks. You can manage it effectively, and things get done. I now present another challenge based on the information above. How about, in every one of those 15 minute chunks, taking one minute to stop, say a short prayer, think a wonderful thought, or do anything to connect with God at that moment.

Your next question may now be “does it work”? I will say that, at first, it is not easy to do. Throughout the first days, I missed several of my divine minutes. However, I am finding that by stopping every 15 minutes to connect with my Creator, I am reaping a bundle of benefits and blessings. I feel more peace; I feel much more in control as I know my day is being handled by the all-knowing Creator who looks out or my best interests; Instead of focusing on fears, I am focusing more on the power that is in me and readily available to me. As a result, I am also happier and more confident. I can already see the positive reactions of those around me.

This may seem like a difficult challenge, but the more I work it into my routine the easier it becomes. Do I still get caught up in the busy day and forget? Of course. However, it is becoming the simple truth that the more I follow this guideline, the more I experience the blessings mentioned above.

I now invite you to take this 15 minute challenge. I believe it will increase your days in a positive way. Please share your victories.

Enjoy the blessings : )

Big Prayers

October 20, 2011

Have you ever experienced the extreme power of prayer? Those times where an answer to a difficult situation is as far away as heaven itself, and you desperately cry out to God? Then suddenly an answer arrives just like that. It’s not just any answer, but a mind-blowing, divine response that is far greater than anything you could have imagined.

I’ve experienced this at times in my life, and I want more! Is it possible to experience results like this on a regular basis? I believe it is. How? It’s about how we pray. I have found that God will give us whatever we expect. It’s easy to pray small, simple prayers. We do that often because our minds can only conceive small results.

I believe it’s time to change the above way of thinking. God is waiting for us to pray big. What are big prayers? They are prayers for things that there is no way we can bring about results on our own. Prayers that go above and beyond our small conceptions and perceptions, and results that can only be brought about by God. When we pray these types of prayers, then we see God begin to move in our lives.

Why don’t people pray these prayers all the time then? I think it’s because, for some strange reason, that there is a limit to the amount of blessing we can receive in our lives. They believe we are not worthy to receive such great things in our lives. They think miracles can happen for other people, but not for them. I can vouch for this as I often thought like this in the past. If this is you, please cease such thinking at once. There are no limits to the amount of blessing we can receive in our lives. And if you have faith, miracles can happen in your life too. It’s simply a matter of asking for them and believing in them.

I have learned an interesting fact through my reading about blessings we receive in our lives. Some of us are lucky enough to have many blessings, some that we never even asked for. However, in many cases, God will not bless us unless we ask. He is actually holding the blessings for us, and will release them upon our request. This tells me that I have missed out on many blessings in life because I never asked for them. I may not know what they were until I get to heaven. On the other side, it tells me that if Ican learn to ask for big things and look beyond my own limited imagination, I can receive so much more in my life than I already have. Now that’s reason for optimism!

The next time you pray, be sure to pray beyond the ordinary good. Seek greatness that only God can provide. Then make sure you are prepared, because you will most likely receive blessings you may not even be ready for. Just be sure to still gladly accept them! God wants to bless you abundantly. Ask big and you will receive beyond big. Enjoy the blessings : )
