This million dollar info is priceless. I felt the need to share because it has already helped me. I hope it inspires you too 🙂
Today I would like to discuss the often misunderstood topic of self-love. It can often bring up negative emotions on both sides. For example, people can think of those who love themselves too much, or other people (especially themselves) who don’t love themselves enough.
I will start by saying this. Self-love is entirely healthy. I will add that it is entirely essential. I was recently reminded of one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. It’s called “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles”. If you’re unfamiliar, the basic plot is that Steve Martin plays a snobby, upper class marketing associate He experiences some difficulty and delays in his travels to return home from a business trip in time for Thanksgiving. Throughout his travels, he encounters John Candy, a loveable, friendly, but overbearing slob who just won’t seem to go away.
There is a scene in the movie where Steve Martin has had enough of the delays and the person he is stuck with. He verbally lashes and insults John Candy. Instead of lashing back, Candy, though hurt by the insults, says something like this…you may not like being stuck with me and you may think you’re above me. But you know what? I like me. My wife likes me. My customers like me.
Those words always stood out, as many times as I’ve seen this movie, and now years later. According to society, this individual may not be the desirable, wealthy high class person and standard so many of us are held to. However, he has something many people don’t. An honest comfort with being himself and loving the person that he is. He knows he’s not perfect. He knows he doesn’t have a lot. In fact, as the movie goes on we find out he has even less than he leads us to believe. However, he appreciates the person that he is, and he appreciates other people.
I challenge you my cherished reader to follow this lead, especially if you’ve been doubting yourself lately. You already know you’re not perfect. But do you know you are created by a perfect God who is very proud of His wonderful creation? I seriously challenge you to think about all of the positives about you today, and all the reasons you are lovable and valuable to others. I am sure you don’t have to think very much to think of at least a few high qualities you have to offer.
I also challenge you to reflect on the unlimited and unconditional love God has for you. No matter how imperfect you are and no matter how many mistakes you’ve made, you are loved beyond comprehension by your Creator. Cherish that and live with this assurance.
Here’s the best part. When you love and appreciate yourself to the fullest, it overflows to others. It is so much easier to love and positively impact others when your own love bucket is overflowing. I challenge you to love and appreciate yourself. Affirm throughout the day…”I like me”. In fact, step it up a notch and say, “I love me”. I find that when I affirm this, my mind provides reasons for me to naturally (not arrogantly) love myself. When I focus on these qualities, it increases my positive attitude and outlook, personal magnetism, and ability to make great impacts on those around me. I am convinced that it will do the same for you. Go ahead, it’s OK. Love yourself to the fullest and make a difference. Enjoy the blessings 🙂
This excellent provides great advice for something that’s often difficult to accomplish…
Staying positive in a negative world is easier said than done and may require great effort, but with God’s help and self-discipline anything is possible.
A Positive Mindset
From the news to everyday conversations with people it’s easy to see that we live in a world that will try to squeeze us into its negative mold. Having a positive mindset changes our perspective of life and can propel us toward opportunities all around us. To remain positive we must continually make the decision to resist negative thoughts that come to our mind. Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mold, but let God re-mold your minds from within…” (PHILLIPS) God gives us the power to choose to have a positive mindset. Here are a few tips that can help you be more positive.
- Choose To Think Positively
God gave us the freedom and power of choice. No matter what the situation may be…

I officially have a new theme to live by as this rapidly moving, still young year continues. It’s from a quote that I read somewhere that says this…”instead of responding to life, let life respond to you”.
I don’t know exactly who said this. I do know that, like many excellent ideas God wants to implant in my mind, I’ve heard a similar message on several occasions in a short period of time.
Think for a moment how empowering this idea is. We have the power to control of our lives. It’s as simple as that. However, too many of us continue to allow the circumstances of life guide us. We are ruled by circumstances (many of them negative) and we feel like we lack the control to handle them. When you do things the other way around, it is much more in your control.
You may ask, “isn’t my life supposed to be in God’s control?” Ultimately, the answer is yes. However, He provides us with a free will of our own. I have learned that we are responsible to use this will correctly. It’s a matter of using our will, allowing God to do His thing, and working together to live the life we were intended for.
Ok, next question… “how do I take control and create my life”? It all starts in the mind. It’s a matter of focusing on things as you want them to be, or believe they should be. It’s a matter of holding those thoughts, visions, and corresponding emotions as much as you can. The more you do that, the more it becomes reality. When you start to believe in its reality, you take the action steps necessary to make it happen.
The reality is that your current life, as good or bad as it is, is mostly a result of the mindset you’ve had up to this point. Yes, I realize life hands us some bad circumstances that are not a result of just negative thinking. And I know it goes the other way too. However, for the most part, your present life is a result of your past thoughts.
The great news is that you can change the course of your life NOW! If your past thoughts have created what you have now, your present thoughts can create your future. The better news is that you have full control of what you allow to be a part of your mindset. Will a positive mindset eliminate all negative situations? I’d be unrealistic to answer that question yes. However, even when negative events occur, if you respond positively and maintain an optimistic frame of mind, you can quickly move on from those events and continue creating the life you desire.
I have learned the importance of taking regular time outs during the day to check the quality of my thoughts. I recommend you do the same. Take regular times to focus on the good things you have to be thankful for now, and on the great things you want to see and be in your life in the future.
I can tell you from experience that when you live this way, you will feel much more in control of your life. Remember that you have power over your life, and it needs to respond to you. It’s not the other way around. Work hand in hand with God. Do all you can do, and surrender the parts you can’t handle and control to Him. Life will respond to you, and you will live miracles. Enjoy the blessings 🙂
The above question is an interesting and relevant one. If I provided all of the reasons why positive thinking is beneficial and necessary, I would use all of the space this website allows.
In addition to maintaining positive thoughts, action is also necessary if you want to accomplish your goals. I am realizing more and more that the action you take is in exact correlation to the thoughts we think. In other words, the formula is simple…the higher quality thoughts you think, the higher quality your actions will be.
I believe in keeping things simple on this site, and I believe you can’t get much more simple than that. It may seem overly simple, in fact. Yet how many times do we let the negative thoughts take over and wonder why we aren’t seeing results?
I challenge myself and my wonderful readers to focus within today. Maintain the highest quality thoughts you possibly can. Feel the highest corresponding emotions. Visualize the success you crave. Then determine what needs to be done and take the steps to do it. The more you focus on the positive thoughts, the more those steps will be giant and productive. Allow this basic formula to produce amazing results. Enjoy the blessings 🙂
